Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (Operations and Corporate Services)

Main purpose of job:

This is a new and exciting position working at the heart of the British high Commission. The overall purpose of the job is to work as part of an effective Private Office team to support the Deputy High Commissioner/ Development Director to deliver the UK’s objectives in Bangladesh. You will provide support and advice as well as administrative and diary management. This is a rewarding and interesting job that will require fast paced delivery, creativity, and excellent networking skills. 

Roles and responsibilities:

•    Role model the British High Commission’s values, particular around respect, inclusion and diversity;
•    Work as part of a seamless Private Office team, supporting the DHC/DD and the High Commissioner, as required. You will be flexible and adaptable and spot and solve problems before they arise.
•    Organise and prepare for external events and key meetings to ensure the DHC/DD can amplify UK priorities. You will work closely with the High Commissioner’s Press and Communications Unit to maximise the DHC/DD’s public diplomacy opportunities.
•    Planning ahead and attending to logistics, commission briefings, speaking notes and background material.
•    Taking responsibility for all logistical arrangements regarding travel, accommodation, and transport arrangement for both domestic and international travel and managing the DHC/DD travel.
•    Arranging official entertainment, including managing, and sending invitation cards, guest lists and entertain claims.
•    Maintain up to date contact lists of key stakeholders and be the point of contact to a range of stakeholders and interlocuters within the British High Commission, externally and with senior stakeholders in the Government of Bangladesh and the UK
•    Providing cover for the Executive Assistant to the High Commissioner.
•    Attending key meetings and noting minutes and writing them up subsequently. This will require you to gain an overview of the breadth of the High Commission’s work, from development to foreign policy and consular and corporate work.
•    You will also support work on the High Commissioner’s crisis response planning. 

Essential on arrival:

EA Experience, working to a senior officer. 
Excellent IT skills and an eye for detail.

The successful candidate will be someone who:

•    Is a good communicator, with excellent drafting and oral presentation skills.
•    Able to work independently, and flexibly with excellent organisational skills, able to manage competing demands effectively.
•    Has strong interpersonal skills and strong sense of maintaining complete confidentiality at all times.
•    Is good at problem solving, able to spot emerging issues and take appropriate proactive measures.

Language requirements: 

English and Bangla

Level of language required: Fluent in oral and written English

 

Desirable: Experience or knowledge of working inside an international organisation, national government, or Diplomatic mission.
