Main purpose of job:

To manage and deliver the Bangladesh CSSF programme in support of the NSC country strategy, focused on building long term stability and strengthening the rule of law. To work with colleagues across different embassy departments – and the wider region – to ensure a coordinated approach that maximises impact.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The UK plays a leading role in the development of Bangladesh. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and promote long term stability and good governance in Bangladesh through leading the delivery of key policy objectives through effective programme management. The jobholder’s  responsibilities will include: 

- Lead the management of the Bangladesh CSSF programme, reporting to Post's programme board and CSSF structures in London, and ensuring excellence across the portfolio of Post's programme work, including GBF.  

- Deploy programme management skills, working with cross mission teams to ensure best practice across the programme, including: project portfolio management, financial management, commercial procurement, risk management, monitoring and evaluation, cross-cutting themes (gender, conflict sensitivity, human rights), due diligence (OSJA guidance), and managing relationships with new and prospective implementing partners. 

-  Lead on building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant London programme teams (FCO and other departments) and NSA structures, ensuring Post makes the best opportunity and strategic use of the funding streams available in line with the Bangladesh NSC strategy and the country business plan. 

- Lead on communications for the programme team, internally and externally, promoting the achievements of the programme, working closely with Post's communications team.

 - Work with existing donor coordination structures in Dhaka to ensure the UK is visible, engaged and has influence in shaping the strategic direction of other relevant donor programming in Bangladesh in line with UK objectives. 

- Contribute to wider Post and Regional priorities as part of a collegiate cross-HMG team.   

- Lead quarterly and annual reviews for the programme, identify lesson learning, and implement recommendations to improve future delivery.  Ensure final project reviews are completed within the stipulated time period. 

Language requirements:  

Language: English 

Level of language required: Fluent in Written and Spoken English

Working patterns:

36 hours per week (Sunday to Wednesday 8:00 – 16:00 & Thursday 8:00 – 14:00)

Essential on arrival:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree from a reputable University
  • Programme and financial management (minimum 5 years)
  • Leadership and team management
  • Stakeholder engagement skills working with international and local actors
  • Excellent IT Skills including use of MS Office

Desirable:

  • Ten years relevant project management experience would be desirable;
  • Previous experience working on programmes related to government organizations and human rights;
  • Experience of successfully leading and supporting a team.
  • Exceptional organisational and management skills, able to maintain speed and flexibility as well as strong oversight of large programmes.
  • PRINCE2 or other internationally recognised project management qualification
