The Defence Section in British Embassy Rabat is seeking a hard working team player to take up the position of Personal Assistant and Translator grade A2 (L) to start as soon as possible.

Main purpose of the job:

To provide administrative support to the Defence Attaché/Assistant to the Defence Attaché in a busy and fast moving section.

The successful candidate will require excellent administration and IT skills and be able to prioritise and cope well under pressure. There will be a range of tasks and issues to be dealt with on any given day and from time to time, the job can become busy with quickly evolving circumstances and priorities. It requires an organised, motivated and security-aware individual who can communicate clearly and effectively with the Defence Attaché, Assistant to the Defence Attaché, colleagues within the Embassy and external visitors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day administration of the department which includes internal and external correspondence.

Ideally, the individual suited to this post would have worked in an office environment and have previous experience in administrative duties. The individual will need to be flexible, confident, proactive and be able to work with other government departments.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Key work-streams will include:

  • Translating and preparing letters and correspondence from English into French and French into English, and occasionally from Arabic into English or French
  • Assisting with the preparation of official visits and events
  • Providing assistance with translations during meetings and visits
  • Making hotel reservations and transport arrangements
  • Updating the Defence Section diaries and maintaining a list of contacts for the Defence Section.
  • Handling routine telephone, email, fax messages and general office duties.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

  • Ability to work independently and to take the initiative as well as being able to work well with others.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: gross salary of MAD 13,912 per month, inclusive of all allowances. The contract will be for a Full Time, Permanent.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday.
