Driver / Messenger

The British Embassy in Rabat is looking for a dynamic team player to take up the position of Driver, Grade S1 to start in April 2020.

Main Purpose of Job:

The Embassy Driver is responsible for providing safe, efficient and effective service to Embassy staff and official visitors. This includes professional and safe driver services, an efficient messenger and administrative support. The Embassy driver is discreet, courteous, and has strong customer skills. He is also responsible for keeping the vehicle clean, in good running condition and carrying regular maintenance checks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Transport of passengers, goods and / or documents

  • Provide safe and punctual driving services to staff and official visitors to appointments, functions and airports during office hours and after hours as necessary.
  • Be familiar with the best routes to and from destinations and be prepared to alter routes when necessary.
  • Excellent knowledge of “code de la route” and respectful of Moroccan driving law.
  • Facilitate airport pickups for VIP visitors and transportation during official/VIP visits and follow pre agreed programmes.
  • Regular checking and follow up of the driver planning using the transport board or as instructed by the Logistics Officer.
  • Collecting the mail from post office as instructed on the transport schedule and delivering mail and invitations.
  • Deliver correspondence to government authorities/organisations and assist in processing various permits (such as airport pass, tarmac access etc.)
  • Deliver payment documents to the bank and collect currency in cash.
  • Deliver documents to Protocol for clearance of duty under privilege and clear goods through customs.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and vehicles at all times when on duty.

Vehicle maintenance

  • Daily check of oil, water, brake fluid, battery and tyres properly and keep the official vehicles in clean condition, both inside and outside.
  • Ensure the vehicle has adequate petrol level at all time and that it is filled up with petrol every Friday.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced on time and schedule vehicle-servicing time with Logistics Officer.
  • Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned report and arrange minor repairs where necessary.
  • Keep track of timely car insurance renewals.
  • Submit daily/weekly maintenance vehicle checks to Logistics Officer.
  • Complete daily vehicle record sheets for each vehicle used accurately -including petrol and oil purchases- and timely submission for the calculation of overtime.
  • Participate in crisis exercises and assist as required in responding to any crisis.
  • Conduct purchases for office expenditure using cash or GPC (officially provided card), obtain receipts and account for all expenditure.
  • Obtain receipts for all delivered documents.
  • Develop useful contacts.
  • General support as instructed by Logistics officer or Head of Corporate Services.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: gross salary of MAD 10,124 per month, inclusive of all allowances. The contract will be for a full-time employment, on a permanent basis.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.

The successful candidate will work on a flexible work pattern, and will be required to work 42 hours a week with a flexible daily start time varying between 10.00 and 12.00 am depending on business needs.
