The British Embassy in Rabat is seeking a Communications and Stakeholder Manager, grade B3 (L) to start as soon as possible.

Main Purpose of Job:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Embassy’s communications and stakeholder engagement work, creating and implementing innovative, impactful strategies which deliver the UK’s global and local priorities.  You will build the Embassy’s influencing networks and will support the Ambassador’s communications engagement with media outlets. You will lead and shape the Embassy’s communications work, ensuring that we are taking full advantage of all opportunities for influence, including on social media channels.

The successful candidate will work with teams across the Embassy, providing advice and using their knowledge of effective communications to maximise the impact of the Embassy’s work.

You will manage one media officer and be part of the FCO’s global and regional communicators’ networks. 

The job will require someone who can look across the Embassy’s range of activities and proactively create strategies to promote the Embassy’s work in Morocco. The successful applicant will need to be experienced across a wide range of traditional, internet-based and social media and demonstrate an ability to think creatively, set strategic direction and act on their own initiative.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement communications strategies to support delivery of UK policy and commercial objectives.
  • Act as a Press Officer, advising the Ambassador on media opportunities and handling, and preparing or tailoring press lines to a local audience, including in fast-moving or crisis situations.
  • Identify opportunities and engage proactively with traditional and social media to promote UK priorities and publicise Embassy activity.
  • Ensure the Embassy’s external communications remain consistent and in line with UK Government messaging.
  • Manage media and communications activity around ministerial and other VIP visits.
  • Lead on stakeholder engagement communications for public diplomacy events.
  • Line manage one communications officer.
  • Understand and apply Foreign Office policy on communications

  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team and independently;
  • Experience of using digital and social media;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;
  • An interest in domestic and international politics and current affairs;
  • Full understanding of Morocco’s media scene.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a gross salary of MAD 22,675 per month, inclusive of all allowances. The contract will be a for a full-time employment, on a permanent basis.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of work, and given the need to act as a point of contact at events for attending journalists/media outlets, the successful candidate will involve some work in evenings and occasional weekends. Time off in lieu will be given for any hours worked outside normal office hours.
