The British Consulate-General (BCG) in Munich is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and we are currently seeking to appoint a Business Development Manager Mobility for the DIT department.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is now looking for a Business Development Manager – Mobility to be part of the DIT team in any of our 3 locations in Germany (Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich).

DIT is the British government’s lead department for international trade and supports foreign investment into the United Kingdom and UK exporters entering the German market. This job offers the opportunity to work at the heart of the UK’s strategy to promote trade between the UK and Germany in the Mobility sector (e.g. automotive, rail, aerospace, shared mobility platforms and related technologies). You will support the Mobility Team in identifying and actively targeting potential investors to the UK and exporters to Germany. This involves supporting the team in managing projects, giving advice and assistance to British and Germany companies to conclude investment/export projects. In addition, an important part of your job will be to conduct market research and analysis both for companies and for internal government stakeholders to use in making policy decisions.

The job offers much autonomy and freedom to set your own direction within the Mobility Team and in line with the agreed business plan, not least in cultivating key business contacts. Following the UK’s exit from the EU, you will be involved in working closely with businesses to understand the present and likely future impact on them.

You will work as part of a friendly and supportive team at DIT Germany and a wider network across Europe, with regular opportunities to travel. DIT Germany also provides a modern and flexible working environment with the opportunity to work partially from Home Office.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Business development: To support the mobility team in the identification and targeting of new and existing German investors as well as UK exporters. You will engage directly with companies to bring investment and export projects to a successful conclusion. You will support the team in developing and managing a strong pipeline of investment and export projects with a strong focus on those projects where Government can add the most value. You will use to various channels to reach companies such as online, direct contact, events such as trade fairs and networking opportunities, some of which you will also be responsible for organising. In all interactions, your attention to detail and customer service approach will be excellent.
  • Market Research & Analysis: A key objective of DIT is to contribute towards the development of trade policy and the elimination of market access barriers to the benefit of the UK and free trade globally. You will conduct market analysis through desk research and discussions with companies to understand how the Mobility market is developing and what opportunities exist for companies and for the UK economy. This analysis will be provided directly to companies to support their market entry decision. In addition, you will conduct analysis to support those within the British Government responsible for making policy recommendations and decisions.
  • Preparation of Briefings: You will support the Mobility team in structuring and writing high quality briefings to be used by senior diplomats and ministers during engagements with companies and various institutional stakeholders in Germany. The briefings will need to be accurate, concise and delivered in a timely manner.


  • Initial experience in Key Account Management and/or Business Development;
  • Very good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Strong written, analytical and research skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be credible with the most senior business leaders;
  • Self-Starter – ability to work well on own initiative;
  • Fluent English and German C1 level;





Although not essential on starting the job, the jobholder will be expected to develop working level knowledge of the Mobility sector in the UK and Germany in order to be able to interact credibly and professionally with senior contacts.

Our Conditions of Employment:

This is a fixed-term position for a contract period of two years, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement.

Working hours per week are 37,5 net. We offer a flexible working policy but the successful candidate may sometimes need to work the occasional evening/weekend when there are visits/events or open up the Consulate in the morning or close in the evening.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate-General in Munich are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
