Political, Public Diplomacy

Background:

The British Consulate-General in Atlanta (BCGA) is hiring for an intern to support the Press and Public Affairs and Executive Office teams for Fall 2017. The student intern will gain experience in international relations, project management, digital media, and verbal and written communications.

The Press and Public Affairs section serves as the communication and engagement hub for the Consulate-General. It monitors important political, business, and economic developments in the region; acts as the primary point of contact with journalists and leading political figures; and shares UK policy materials with various publics. This section also arranges programmes for British VIP visits to the region, represents the British government at official functions, and monitors state legislation that impacts UK interests. Students interested in public relations, marketing, event planning, or government relations would especially benefit from this experience.
The Executive Office supports the Consul General by planning his visitation programmes around the region and the UK, scheduling all internal and external meetings, and leading on all events held at the Residence (e.g. Diwali reception, Summer Garden Party, Holiday Contacts Reception).

The BCGA represents UK interests in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee in such areas as trade and investment, science and innovation, press and public affairs, and in support of British citizens abroad.

Further information can be found on www.gov.uk/world/usa or www.facebook.com/ukinatlanta.
