Summary:

Focusing on Tech & Creative Media, the TIA will proactively focus on supporting UK-based tech & creative media companies to enter or grow their business in the US, and helping innovative US-based companies capitalise on commercial opportunities in the UK. Focus will be on supporting their TIO in accessing opportunities for companies, managing DIT’s relationships with strategic accounts, and driving regional activity within the US in support of major campaigns and export deals for the UK.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Investment development: Working with and under the direction of the team leader, identifying key decision makers and cold-calling US companies who have the potential to become UK investors. Arrange meetings and provide briefing on companies. Promote the UK as a place to do business via industry events. Present information on the UK market to US clients, identify and research potential partners, and attend meetings where appropriate.

• Trade development: Support/advise UK companies seeking to enter the US market. Identify opportunities in the US market for UK companies to sell into. Assist in creating buyer relationships for UK companies.

• Track, evaluate, and report on outcomes of activities. Maintain up-to-date files of documents, correspondence, online Clients Relations Management (CRM) records, and other internal records. Develop meeting programs and briefing materials for high-level visiting government officials.

• Build and maintain knowledge of developments and trends in the tech, and creative media industries in both the US and the UK. Conduct research and compile reports on industry developments, best routes to market and potential US business partners for UK companies operating in the teach & creative sectors that are looking to enter the US market.

• Assist with initiatives such as seminars, panel discussions, receptions and other events to promote the UK’s strengths in the sector. Contribute when necessary to administrative and logistical support for event participation. Provide support around UK activity at SXSW.

• Liaise with both internal government teams and external contacts at an executive level.
• Assist with consular support services in times of crisis.
• Familiarity of Social Media and ability to create and execute a social media strategy for the DIT Houston Tech & Creative

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, international marketing, political / international affairs or communications; 
• 1-3 years business development or client management experience;
• Ability to be proactive, organized and work to deadlines, prioritize and multi-task, and have a strong attention to detail;
• A self-starter, able to work independently and show initiative with limited day-to-day supervision while operating as part of a wider US/UK team with wide-ranging objectives;
• Strong networking skills;
• Ability to work under tight deadlines;
• Clear, organised writer with strong communication skills, including excellent research ability and topical summary skills;
• Computer literacy in standard Microsoft applications;
• Driving license and ability to undertake occasional air travel, including overnight stays.
