There are 2 UKVI summer relief roles available, which are Entry Clearance Officers and Visa Writers. We will consider all applications for both roles. Applicants do not need to apply separately.

Applicants must be available to work in China from March/ April 2018 to the end of September 2018.


Visa Writers (VW) are tasked to check computer records to ensure complete accuracy prior to printing official United Kingdom visas.

The jobholder will:

  • Ensure correct core details and endorsements are reflected on the vignettes.
  • Stick the vignette in the correct passport in accordance with current procedures.
  • Emboss visas where necessary, ensuring they are accurate and completed correctly.
  • Keep accurate batch control sheets to be presented to the Duty Entry Clearance Manager each day.
  • Assisting in training new colleagues when required.
  • Assist Entry Clearance Officers and other colleagues with any visa related queries and correspondence.

Appointment of the successful candidates will also be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:

  • Nationals from the UK;
  • Other nationals from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).

Necessary security clearance for this position can take at least two months and will require completion of a separate security interview which can take place either in the UK or in China (dates to be notified). Candidates must be available for this security interview at the times provided and adhere to the security clearance deadlines (to be provided to successful candidates) to be considered for this role.

  • Good IT skills, knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a small team.

  • An ability to work under pressure and to prioritise your workload to meet changing operational requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree and above is preferred but not essential; advantageous if you are a final year student or graduate of a Chinese-related bachelor's degree (or higher) course.
  • Good command of reading/ speaking skills in Chinese (Mandarin) language will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in immigration work relating to the United Kingdom or other countries with similar systems is desirable.

The abated monthly salary of RMB 12,479/ month for British Nationals and spouses/partners of all nationalities of diplomats who are ‘w’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria. A 5% bonus will be paid on completion of the full contract period.  

 

Net conditioned working hours are 35 hours per week (excluding lunch break), five (5) working days a week with two (2) consecutive days off. It is likely that the five working days could include Saturday or Sunday. There may also be a requirement for flexible shift working between 6AM and 11PM.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
