The British Embassy in Copenhagen is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Political Attaché (1 year fixed term, with the possibility of renewal).

As an Attaché within the Embassy’s Political Section, you will support the work of the Political Team and assist with researching and reporting on European and domestic policy issues that go beyond what can be read in the news. Keeping abreast of the debate in government, political party, think tanks, academic and business community circles. Engaging with contacts to gather information and lobby on behalf of the UK. Tracking the debate on social media and spotting opportunities to engage and organizing events as well as visits in line with Embassy priorities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with producing high quality written analysis and reporting on European and domestic issues of most interest to the UK, including through desk-based research, as well as research conducted through contacts and academic sources. Analyse political trends and developments. Contribute to oral and written briefing as requested. Maintain a good knowledge of political events and developments (e.g. monitoring the press and social media, meeting political contacts, think tanks and academics) 40%;
  • Advise the Political team on key contacts - recommending and setting up meetings and calls as necessary. Assist in arranging programmes for visitors to the Embassy, including VIPs and UK Government Officials. 20%;
  • Assist with the arrangement of events, including the logistical aspects, and work with the Embassy’s press team to increase impact. 20%;
  • Attend and report on seminars, conferences and events for the Embassy. 10%;
  • Respond flexibly to changing priorities in the team, including by taking on work outside the usual remit as circumstances demand. 5%;
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the broader Embassy through participation in corporate initiatives and forming part of the Embassy’s crisis response. 5%;

  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Danish;
  • A deep understanding of Danish politics and Denmark’s European policy priorities;
  • Experience of working in a governmental or international environment;
  • A flexible attitude, and ability to switch easily between policy dossiers;
  • Proven ability to prioritise, handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing circumstances;
  • Proven ability to work in a team;
  • The role would particularly suit a graduate with a minimum of 1 year of work experience .
