The British Embassy in Ljubljana is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, consular and Defence interests overseas and is now looking for a Political Assistant and Visits Officer.

This is an interesting and varied role in which the job holder will assist the Deputy Head of Mission and Political team, lead visits officer and will be responsible for coordinating programmes for VIP visitors. Further will provide support for our foreign policy engagement through coordinating requests from London and providing briefing and research to the Ambassador and DHM.

 Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Deputy Head of Mission and the Political team by arranging meetings and events, diary management, responding to correspondence and arranging travel and transport.
  • Support engagement of all colleagues in the political team including with policy support, briefing and accompanying to meetings.
  • Ensure good information management within the Political team.
  • Responsible for coordinating senior official and VIP visits from the UK, ensuring well managed programme, logistics and clear communication with colleagues in the UK and in Slovenia.
  • Support Embassy’s foreign policy engagement with Slovenia, by coordinating and allocating requests for engagement and information from London on foreign policy issues. In time, for the right candidate, it may be possible to take on a specific portfolio responsibility e.g. UN issues.
  • Act as cover for the Ambassador’s assistant during their absence working directly with the Ambassador.
  • Training and personal development through formal and informal training opportunities.

  • Manage and prioritise workload, drive agendas forward and deliver results;

  • Fluent in English and Slovene (written and spoken).

This is a fixed-term full-time position for a contract of 1 year with possibility of extension for another year, 5 days (40 hours per week), subject to a probation period of 6 months. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.

You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Slovenia in order to apply.
