The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Intern for its Economic team in Madrid.

The Economic Intern will form part of the Embassy’s Economic and Public Policy (EPP) Team. He/she will be responsible for providing the team with insightful analysis on the Spanish economy (and its regions) and the commercial relationship between Spain and the UK. This information will feed into briefing for the Ambassador/Deputy Head of Mission meetings and visits, provide the team with a stronger analytical base for its engagement with government and business, and help to inform UK policy.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide analysis of national and regional economic data and identify key trends. Feed in to economic reports and presentations for colleagues in the Embassy and officials in London.

  • Provide analysis of the commercial relationship between the UK and Spain. Feed in to economic reports and presentations for colleagues in the Embassy and officials in London.

  • Provide ad hoc factual briefing for the Ambassador and Embassy colleagues to assist with official visits across Spain.

  • Contribute to the organisation and running of Embassy events.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Dynamic and hardworking, with ability to work on own initiative.

Important:

    • The intern must be studying during the period of the internship;
    • The Academic Institution should have an agreement with the British Embassy;
    • Third party liability insurance which is often supplied by the Academic Institution (when applicable) to cover the intern in the event they are injured on the premises or damage property;
    • Proof of medical coverage for the period of the internship.

     


    • Educational background in economics, statistics or related field is an advantage;

    • Proficiency with Excel is an advantage.

    This is an internship placement of 25h per week and duration of 6 months.

    The British Embassy will offer a monthly internship allowance € 516 per month.

    The intern will need to arrange and pay for his or her own travel, accommodation, as well as any other costs.

    The successful internship candidate will be subject to a confirmation of a background check and security clearance, they will be registered on the Spanish Social Security.

    The internship candidate will be subject to the conditions of agreement between the University and the Embassy.

    The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Interns are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate if applicable to them.

    All applicants should have the right to live and work in Spain. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

    Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.
