The British Embassy in Copenhagen, part of a world-wide network representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas, is looking for a Residence Manager. This a full-time job and will require occasional working in the evenings.

The Residence Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the Residence and, along with the wider Corporate Services team, ensuring it contributes fully to UK government priorities, represents value for money, is maintained to the highest standards and serves as a showcase for British excellence for its’ guests.

Reporting directly to Deputy Corporate Services Manager, the Residence Manager is also responsible, with various sections of the Embassy and the Residence team, for the co-ordination and delivery of all internal events in the Embassy.

Main Duties and Resposabilities

Residence Management

  • Keep the Residence well maintained;
  • Liaise with the Ambassador on maintenance works, working closely with the Estates Team on reactive and proactive works;

  • Keep the Residence Guide relevant and circulated appropriately;

  • Responsible for the Residence calendar; co-ordinating effectively with the Ambassador’s PA;

  • Line management; co-ordinate the team iro working patterns and the use of TOIL/overtime rules to ensure that work/events are managed and delivered effectively, mobilising additional resources when necessary;

  • Liaise with Deputy CSM on all budget matters for the Residence and events;

  • Oversee stock levels with the Residence Chef;

  • From time-to-time, lead service at events, managing casual staff compliment, meeting and greeting visitors and serving refreshments;

  • Responsible for Government Art Collection audits as required;

  • Act as the Fire Warden for the Residence;

  • Other duties as required including; Management of Embassy Transit Accommodation.

Event Management

  • Effective delivery of internal events, following guidelines and within agreed budgets including; maintaining files and records of all events, internal and casual staff planning, audio visual equipment hire, furniture rental, etc.;
  • Oversee menu planning with the Residence Chef;

  • Lead on planning and project managing of large/high profile events ie the annual Queen’s Birthday Party, developing our network of suppliers and sponsors to ensure we deliver maximum impact;

  • Collaborate with Deputy Corporate Services Manager to define pricing and terms and conditions for external events. Managing external contracts and ensure that invoices are issued and paid in a timely fashion;

  • Provide event advice and guidance to wider Embassy.


  • Relevant experience in the hospitality industry or similar;
  • Effective communicator both written and spoken;

  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office;

  • Organised self-starter;

  • Previous line management experience;

  • Have initiative;

  • Solution oriented;

  • Ability to prioritise and make necessary adjustments to own workload Experience of stewarding.


  • Practical Budget management experience;

  • Practical Procurement experience;

  • Experience with event management software; Lyyti, Eventbrite, etc.
