The British Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic intern to work in their Communications, Press and Media section for a period of three (3) months, starting September 2019 until December 2019.

Purpose of the job:

The intern will join the Consulate’s high performing Communications Team to support the delivery of the 2019/2020 Communications Plan, which seeks to raise the profile of the UK in the OPTs, promote UK values, and championed cultural and educational relations. The position will combine tasks related to traditional media and social media, including monitoring and reporting on press and news, translating key documents, writing press releases, and developing social media content. The Communications Intern will also assist in the delivery of projects, events, and VIP visit programmes, including contributing to media and social media plans.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Closely monitor Palestinian traditional and social media in order to write press reviews.
  • Write focused reports on Palestinian reactions in the press and media trends following high-profile events or visits.
  • Assist on forward planning Consulate’s communications efforts and develop ideas for the Consulate’s communications efforts by building and maintaining the team’s planning grids.
  • Support the production of social media content, and assist in running the Consulate’s social media channels.
  • Writing / translating from Arabic to English (or vice versa) press releases, briefings, meeting minutes, op-eds and social media content.
  • Take photographs and record videos of events and visits for social media usage.

  • Good knowledge of social media trends and basic web publishing skills
  • Some experience of implementing digital media campaigns.
  • Enthusiastic and creative self-starter able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organisation with a professional and courteous attitude.
  • Good photography and mobile-videography skills.
  • Knowledge in video editing / infographics production is a plus.

Working Hours:

This is a Part Time, Internship role for three (3) months. The gross conditioned hours is 24 hours, 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

Normal working hours at the Consulate-General are 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 – 14:00 on Friday.
