View Vacancy - Political Intern (BGR19.400)
The British Embassy in Sofia is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for two full time Political Interns, one to start in September 2019 and the second one to start in March 2020.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Brexit/Economy: Research and development of background documents that help the team to understand Bulgaria and its economy
Internal Politics: Research and development of background documents that help the team to understand Bulgaria and its politics; participation in meetings and conferences with Bulgarian stakeholders
Projects: Secretary of the Embassy’s Programme Management Board; keeping track of project objectives and spend; reporting to London
Migration: Analysis of and reporting on the migration situation
Supporting the Political Team: Work on ad-hoc work requests from across the team (e.g. arranging meetings and visits, translating newspaper articles, mini research projects)
Cross-Embassy role: Representing the Political Team across the Embassy, including at meetings
- Fluent in English and Bulgarian;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel;
- Good communication and organisational skills;
- Knowledge of and interest in Bulgarian politics;
- Good analytical and research skills;
- Ability to work well independently.
This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) for an internship of 6 months.
One internship to start in September 2019 (that will come to an end on March 2020) and the second internship to start in March 2020 (that will come to an end on September 2020).
The successful candidate will receive a monthly salary of BGN 510 gross as well as BGN 50 net transport allowance per month throughout the duration of the internship.
The successful candidates will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Bulgaria may apply, including all EU / EEA citizens and the family members of EU / EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Bulgaria.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Bulgarian employment law. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Bulgaria. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
Visa/Passport Requirements: Must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Bulgaria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits.
