The British Embassy in Tirana is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit for the position of Border Force Project Hunter Assistant, Grade A2 (L).

 Project Hunter is a UK funded project that aims to build international capability in data analysis and targeting, with a view to enhance customs and border-crossing procedures for international carriage of people and goods. The objective is to deter the movement across national borders of individuals and goods that would harm the national interest of these countries, by enhancing effective border control. This is to be achieved through developing data analysis and targeting capabilities from Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Named Record (PNR) data provided by airlines and similar data collection techniques in the maritime, air-freight, post/fast parcels and container environments.

Objective:

The successful applicant will join a small Border Force Project Hunter team focussing on building collaborative partnerships with law enforcement agencies at the border both in Albania and the Western Balkans region. Fluency in English is necessary as you will be regularly required to translate documents, and in person at meetings and training events with external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Border Force Officers assigned to the team.

  • Translation of documents and in person at meetings and training events.

  • Assist in building relationships with law enforcement partners in Albania and throughout the region, through regular liaison.

  • Undertake in-depth fact finding and analysis in order to identify the best approach or solution from a range of options.

  • Support the senior management team by compiling reports, briefings and presentations as necessary.

  • Provide a full range of administrative support to the team including, scheduling meetings, writing minutes, managing databases and booking travel.

  • Arrange servicing of equipment donated to partner agencies and manage the budget for this.

  • Assist with financial reporting and the correct running of the Project Hunter accounts, including the compilation of financial forecasts, accurate reports and monthly returns.

  • Compile tactical and strategic reports.

  • Assist with the review and reporting of ongoing projects within the region.

  • Undertake other duties that may reasonably be required, within the grading and core competences of the job.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.

  • Flexibility, creativity and ability to learn quickly and develop new skills.

  • High standard of all Microsoft applications.

  • Ability to work independently and to take the initiative as well as being able to work well with others.

  • Fluency in English and Albanian (both spoken and written).

  • University degree.


  • Experience in working with government, NGO or law enforcement bodies.

This is a full-time fixed-term contract, for 5 working days (36 hours net) per week, for a period of 1 year.

The monthly salary for this position is 127,626 ALL gross per month, at A2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and three months probation period.

Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Tirana and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
