Main purpose of job:

The British Deputy High Commission Hyderabad is looking for an enthusiastic, self-starter to help build and increase our engagement in Energy & Low Carbon and Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), and support delivery of programmes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The main purpose of the job is to facilitate partnerships between UK and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by identifying business opportunities, engaging with Government bodies, organising events, maintaining an extensive range of contacts with UK and Indian Institutions in the above areas, and build a pipeline of commercial opportunities for UK businesses.

The job holder will work closely with the Prosperity Adviser based in Hyderabad, the jobholder will be expected to travel extensively and engage with contacts in the region.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

Energy and EoDB (60%)

  • Promote the UK’s strengths in energy and green growth to State Governments and private sector including on energy and climate resilience
  • As a part of the Delhi-coordinated energy network, lead engagement with AP and Telangana on how to support the development of secure and sustainable energy through technical assistance collaboration. To include stakeholder management, inputs to programme design and implementation, reporting and communication.
  • Support the development of a commercial pipeline: identify opportunities for the UK Energy/low carbon sector in the region and support UK firms looking to do business in the region.
  • Provide evidence, policy analysis and market intelligence on emerging trends, opportunities and challenges related to energy and EoDB.
  • Lead the post’s work on EoDB in the region, identify, design and deliver partnerships between the UK and two Indian states (under Prosperity Fund programme) to develop Indian markets and identify, grow and refine opportunities for UK businesses.
  • Build strategic partnerships at the regional/state level to strengthen UK’s work on climate change, lead post’s activities on climate change in the run up to, over and beyond CoP 26.
  • Identify leads and support with Green Finance.

Project and Programme Management (30%)

  • Support/facilitate delivery of multisectoral programmes at regional level (e.g. make introductions, identify issues and policy/commercial opportunities) and monitor the implementing partners to drive delivery and ensure accountability for results.
  • Support for inward visits by UK ministers, senior officials and VIPs, and Prosperity delegations to the State. Securing the participation of relevant State experts in other Prosperity events in India and missions to the UK.

Technology, Research and Innovation (10%)

  • Promote UK-India Research and Innovation funding programmes: UKIERI, Newton Fund, Bilateral collaborations, and opportunities for India to work with the UK such as the Global Challenges Research Fund.
  • Report significant opportunities for UK collaborations to lead officers in Science and Innovation Network (SIN), Research Council (RC) etc.
  • Contribute to SIN policy reporting, as required.
  • Support delivery of SIN projects and programmes, and RC as requested.

Language requirements:

  • English and Telugu

Level of language required:

  • An ability to speak and write in English to a high level is mandatory.
  • An ability to speak in Telugu is mandatory.

Essential on arrival:

  • Graduate in any discipline with at-least 3 yrs of work experience
  • Excellent team working skills, with strong ability to build co-operative working relationships across our own network, and outside of the Deputy High Commission with a wide range of organisations.
  • Project management and research experience
  • A self-starter, with proven energy and initiative in overcoming obstacles, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise with minimal supervision.
  • Very strong and proven analytical, excellent communication skills and IT proficiency.
  • Experience of working in an international organisation.
  • Experience of working with Businesses and government organisations
  • A good understanding/background on Energy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, is highly preferable.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be INR 62,826 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Special Allowance.
