The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has a worldwide network of embassies and consulates, employing over 14,000 people in nearly 270 diplomatic offices. We work with international organisations to promote UK interests and global security, including the EU, NATO, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.

Corporate Services Benelux (CSB) is a joint service of over 50 colleagues and contractors that leads on operational support to the UK Diplomatic Missions in Brussels (the UK Mission to the EU and our bilateral Embassy to Belgium). CSB is now looking for a full-time Post Security Manager, who will ensure a safe and secure working environment for the staff and visitors of the British Embassy to Belgium and UK Mission to the EU (UKMIS) through excellent management of physical security.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring all staff and visitors are safe and secure;
  • Responsible for the effective day-to-day management of team of Security Officers and Contracted Guards including rotation and cover;
  • Provide a professional interface with the public;
  • Responsibility for conducting and leading fire, emergency and evacuation drills;
  • Responsible for identifying and managing potential threats;
  • CCTV systems & access control management;
  • Maintain security awareness and culture at post;
  • Application of breach procedures;
  • Provide training to security guards, advice to staff and spouses;
  • Maintain security equipment and liaise with the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM);
  • Liaise with local security organisations including Police, associated Diplomatic/LE security managers of friendly missions;
  • Maintain a log of daily occurrences / events/function and visitors;
  • Role of the Fire Safety Manager by testing fire and emergency alarms weekly;
  • Undertake additional duties in support of Embassy requirements.
  • Fluent English language skills (oral and written);
  • A minimum of 5 years previous security experience;
  • A minimum of 2 years previous experience of staff management;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Ability to work unsupervised;
  • Flexibility & ability to maintain professionalism under pressure;
  • Full driving licence;
  • Relevant PC experience including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • A training background/experience in managing and developing staff;
  • Fluent French language skills (oral and written);
  • Fluent Dutch language skills (oral and written).

This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. The monthly gross salary for this position is €4,243.29, B3 level.

In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13 month, luncheon vouchers pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.

Visa/passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
