Main purpose of job:
The Alumni, Youth Engagement & Chevening Officer will oversee the British High Commission’s youth engagement strategy in Malaysia, building effective networks of contacts with future leaders to deliver UK objectives. This will involve the development of relationships with young people, including UK university alumni, from a wide range of sectors (including politics, business, government, and civil society); and identifying high performing Chevening scholars to study in the UK.

Identify, map, and build on existing relationships with key UK alumni in Malaysia relevant to priority areas for the BHC:

- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Strong networking skills and ability to engage with a range of diverse contacts
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The British High Commission has an active Learning & Development Committee which works hard to provide a comprehensive L&D offer. There is a wide range of options available for personal development including training courses, coaching and mentoring, job-shadowing, presentations and learning sets. Staff have access to a wide variety of online resources through the International Academy and Civil Service Learning. Staff are strongly encouraged to take advantage of all available opportunities.
All new hires undertake a workplace induction and there are a number of mandatory e-learning courses that must be completed in order to pass probation.
Working patterns:
The British High Commission (BHC) Malaysia supports and promotes flexible working. The standard working hours for the BHC are 8:00am to 4:30 pm. We are happy to offer a variety of flexible working patterns, including non-standard working hours, working remotely or working compressed hours. However, due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement for occasional out of hours work around events and visits. Time off in lieu can be offered to make up for out of hours work.
