The candidates selected will have the chance to join a multinational/multicultural environment that will allow them to learn and get excellent experience in the Department for International Trade (DIT). They will work in a mainly administrative and support role with many opportunities to work in areas such as event management, relationship with UK and Spanish companies, business reporting and social media communications. This is a good opportunity to put into practice and broaden their business and communication skills.

Intern 1 - General support for Madrid Office

  • Project support
  • Event management and coordination
  • VIP visits
  • Stakeholder management
  • Administrative support
  • Market research, including of UK & Spanish businesses
  • Recording interactions in DIT´s CRM system
  • Comms support - help to implement DIT Social Media Strategy 

Intern 2 - Consumer and Retail, Food and Drink and ODI project

The intern will be fully dedicated to supporting our Officer responsible for the areas of Consumer and Retail, Food and Drink and the development of ODI (Overseas Direct Investment).

The Consumer and Retail campaign is a priority for Spain. The busy team continues to work on introducing new brands as well as still receiving many EU exit enquiries. Spain is still the most affected market in the EU and British brands are facing uncertainty due to these matters.

The intern will also support the Consumer and Retail Officer in promoting ODI in the Spanish market, organising a series of events and having meetings with relevant stakeholders to launch this project.

Both intern roles represent a great opportunity for the successful applicants to gain experience in very important sectors for the Spanish market.

  • Fluency both written and spoken in English and Spanish according to CEFR Framework *

  • High level of motivation and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative when required

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point)

  • Ability to look for information about a company or sector on the Internet and obtain information by phone

  • Able to work under pressure and to juggle competing deadlines

  • Good knowledge of content marketing, social media marketing, mainly Twitter and Linkedin, and monitoring and analysis of results.

  • Currently studying a degree related to business and/or marketing/comms.

This is a part-time internship contract. Normal working hours are 25 per week.

The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.

The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
