The British Consulate-General in Munich is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Business Development Manager and Head of the Automotive Team to be part of the UKTI Team.

UK Trade & Investment works with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets, and encourage the best overseas companies to look to the UK as their global partner of choice. The UK is the most attractive inward investment market in Europe. Boosting this inward investment even further is at the top of the British Government’s priorities. This Senior Business Development Manager role plays an important part in delivering that success. The post-holder will identify and actively target Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing key account customers in the German Market who have the potential to invest in the UK. He/She will manage projects, giving advice and assistance to potential and existing German investors and bring investment projects to a successful conclusion. He/She will also oversee the work of the small team which is focussed on leading a campaign to boost UK automotive exports to Germany.The role involves supporting that team in strategy development and implementation. Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To identify and actively target Advance Engineering & Manufacturing key account customers on the German market who have the potential to invest in the UK and/or to expand their existing activities;
  • To build strong customer relationships with the above key account companies in the German Advance Engineering & Manufacturing sector. This includes working credibly at the most senior levels of decision making;
  • To advise and provide assistance to potential and existing German investors to bring investment projects to a successful conclusion in cooperation with UK partners and to promote the UK as a location for investment through the organisation of and participation in public relations and networking events;
  • To manage the AEM investment team, including leading business planning and managing a Business Development Manager and other staff as directed;
  • To oversee the strategic campaign to grow the value of UK exports to Germany in the automotive sector and to manage the Automotive Trade team. 

 

  • Fluent in German and English, both oral and written;
  • Good knowledge of the German and UK Business Environments, with experience of key account management at senior level;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams successfully;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills;
  • Ability to research and analyse complex information;
  • Self Starter – ability to work well on own initiative;
  • Strong strategic planning and delivery skills;
  • Willingness to travel within Germany and occasionally to other countries;
  • Good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience of working in the German Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing  sectors, particularly automotive would be an advantage;
  • Staff management experience (The post-holder will be Line Manager of one B3 and two A2 staff);
  • Project Management experience;
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management software.

This is a full-time position of 2 years with possibility of extension with 6 months of probation period.
