The British Consulate-General in Munich is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Business Development Manager – Automotive Sector to be part of the Department for International Trade (DIT) team based in Munich.

Main Purpose of Job:

To lead on project, client and event management for the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) to boost automotive exports from the UK to Germany. This will not only include dealing directly with UK companies seeking to grow their exports to Germany but also to understand what barriers to market access may exist as well as to promote a positive image of a Global Britain in the German market. This role will be part of a wider DIT team in Munich and Germany looking to promote the UKs economic interest in Germany. The basis of this promotion will be the UKs Industrial Strategy and Automotive Sector Deal. We are looking for someone who can lead automotive export effort by being enterprising, a self-starter, team oriented, well organised and able to pick up new issues quickly.

Main Roles and Responsibilities :

To lead the DIT automotive export team in achieving their goals through business engagement both in the UK and in Germany. This includes:

  • Drawing up a yearly business plan that outlines the activities and measures that should be taken to achieve DITs Automotive Export ambitions in Germany;
  • To lead on the execution of the business plan and manage resources (budget, project team members etc.) during the delivery of the business plan;
  • Work with the Head of Automotive in Germany to achieve your goals and identify those areas where you need additional support;
  • Carry out targeted market research and event organisation for UK companies;
  • Create new opportunities for UK companies to attract Germany buyers;
  • Organise roundtables, dedicated business events, bilateral company meetings and senior diplomatic visits;
  • Identify new platforms and methods to engage with the DITs target audience;

In addition to the above you will, as part of the wider DIT team and the Foreign Commonwealth Office Network with in Germany support the following activies:

  • As part of your engagement with British and German companies you will identify and describe barriers to market access that British companies are encountering with trying to enter the German market;
  • You will promote a Global Britain through highlighting British Automotive Excellence at various events carrier out by DIT;
  • Support on wider FCO efforts to build a strong bilateral relationship between the UK and Germany as the UK leaves the European Union;
  • Proficiency in English and German (written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Have a University-level or equivalent professional qualification;
  • At least 4/5 years of work experience in business development and market research within the automotive industry and/or trade development environment;
  • Experience in Business Planning/Project Management;
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills;
  • Ability to delivering high quality products to fixed deadlines;
  • Self-starter, pro-active and collaborative spirit;
  • Good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel;

  • Previous experience working in an international business environment and/or investment promotion work;
  • Knowledge of the German and UK Automotive Business Environments;

This is a full-time position of five working days 37.5 hours per week, for a contract period of two years with the possibility of renewal.

Staff recruited by the British Consulate-General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to German employment law.
