The British Embassy Algiers currently has a vacancy for Estates Section Leader, job grade B3 (L).

Main purpose of the job:

Supervise and manage the Estates Section, providing leadership for the delivery of a professional service that complies with FCO policies and Service Level Agreements.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Act as the main point of contact internally and externally for general Estates and property related matters and ensure that all correspondence is dealt with by the right person within agreed service standards.
  • Liaise closely with Technical Works Group to coordinate the general maintenance services and Health and Safety compliance of the office compound, and all residential properties, including the Residence.
  • Strategic planning in order to source new properties for UK Based staff (as and when required) and work closely with the Technical Work Group & Security Teams to implement and track improvements for newly acquired properties.
  • Play an active and collaborative role in the work of the Post Housing Committee (PHC) by making recommendations on housing for UK based staff and implement all agreed decisions in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the development of Algiers’ Post Housing Policy by supporting Head of Corporate Services through providing recommendations, alternatives, advice and briefing.
  • Ensuring that TWG implement Health and Safety programmes. 
  • Drive sustainable and green initiatives (eg reducing waste, monitor energy and fuel consumption to drive down cost and increasing recycling).   
  • Negotiate best VFM leases with potential landlords and other suppliers by monitoring the market, and renewing the contracts every year. Ensure that all contracts follow the standard FCO templates and are made available in English. 
  • Responsible for the annual local budget for Estates related activity including monitoring and forecasting.
  • Liaise closely with the Finance and Protocol Team to ensure that procurement and purchasing activities take place on time and at optimum costs to ensure post is receiving value for money for money at all times.
  • Lead on Embassy utilities relationship management.
  • Manage Suppliers contracts with a total value less than £25K.
  • Ensure that the Fixed Asset Register is up to date.
  • Ensure that Pyramid is up to date and accurate.
  • Line management of one A2 staff.

Remuneration, working hours and other benefits:

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including: net salary of 91,443.18 DZD per month; 25 days paid leave annually along with up to 14 days paid public holidays. This is a full time, permanent contract.

The confidential nature of the work requires and the work must be carried out at the Embassy. Conditioned working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Normal working hours are 08:00 – 15:30 Sunday to Thursday. 

Eligibility:

Applicant must have the legal right to work in Algeria.
