The British Embassy in Paris is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (with offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille) and includes British representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE). As part of the France Network, the Department for International Trade (DIT) is looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager (B3) covering the Sports Economy, based in Paris.

Main purpose of job:

  • To deepen existing ties and build new commercial links between France and the UK, by cultivating a wide network of contacts in both French and British circles. In particular the job’s purpose is to: assist British companies to win sports business in France by using knowledge of British expertise and helping sell these strengths to the French Government and French business. To do so, the jobholder will work closely with British exporters, colleagues across the Embassy, British central and local Government.
  • With the Deputy Director to lead DIT France’s support to medium-sized British exporters.
  • A smaller part of the job will be to increase trade and investment between France and the UK in agricultural technology.
  • Based on sound relationship management of key contacts and companies, the purpose of the job is to identify, plan, and manage specific projects, including managing visits to the UK and to France and any budgetary aspects.
  • Engage and lobby external contacts to win support for wider International Trade and Investment interests.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Helping to promote UK exports within the sports economy and to a lesser extent in agricultural technology. You will be required to provide high-quality services to UK-based companies helping them to identify and win an agreed number of commercial opportunities in the French market;
  • With the DIT Deputy Director, the postholder will manage the team’s support to medium-sized British exporters, including line-managing two interns;
  • A smaller part of your job will be to work with UK-based colleagues and the France Network to increase an agreed number of targeted growth-creating sports economy and agricultural technology Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects into the UK;
  • To build and maintain a strong network of contacts in order to develop enduring and successful commercial partnerships between French and British interests;
  • To organise targeted, outcome-orientated events in support of British exports, including internet-based webinars, B2B events, presentations and or exhibition events.

 

  • Good knowledge of French demand in the sector of sports economy and agricultural technology
  • Proven ability to help companies achieve commercial outcomes
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to deliver results
  • The ability to complete work to a high standard under pressure and the ability to manage competing demands and priorities effectively
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French (this will be tested during the interview)
  • knowledge and understanding of the UK sports economy and agricultural technology sector and its companies
  • Ability to think strategically and spot new opportunities
  • Experience of working in a policy context
  • Experience of working in an international environment
