Applications are invited to fill a vacancy within the British Embassy, Bahrain as Political Analyst.

Objective:

As the Embassy’s Political Analyst you will be responsible for delivering high quality and timely analysis of current events and developments in Bahrain and the region. You will also work with Embassy Colleagues to support the delivery of the UK’s strategic partnership with the Gulf in a range of areas.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of in depth analytical reports on relevant issues and developments - liaising as appropriate with senior internal and external stakeholders and contacts.
  • Briefing senior British officials.
  • Support to the Head of Political External and Economics Team in programmatic activity.
  • Assistance in the preparation for, and delivery of VIP visits
  • Leading on the Embassy’s programmes engaging UK alumni and young leaders.

  • Leading and Communicating - Effectiveness in this area is about leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm.
  • Making Effective Decisions - Effectiveness in this area is about being objective; using sound judgment, evidence and knowledge to provide accurate, expert and professional advice.
  • At least 3 years work experience in a relevant fiel
  • A developed understanding of international and regional affairs. 
  • Ability to critically review and analyse complex multiple sources of information
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Bahraini politics and society
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Arabic language skills would be advantageous.
  • Strong IT skills; proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel)/ and social media.

Benefits

A non-negotiable monthly salary package of 1500 BHD as well as private medical insurance, a leave entitlement and training package. Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate.  This may include training in London and the region.   

Flexibility will be required on the working hours, including providing leave cover, but the usual working pattern will be three consecutive working days per week 0730 – 1430.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3 month probationary period and will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy as soon as possible. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks.

Process

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
