Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the National Crime Agency (NCA) within the British High Commission (BHC) in Nairobi, providing all-round logistics support to one of the largest missions in the city. The main purpose of the job is to provide transport services for NCA staff and visitors to and from assigned destinations within Kenya and Tanzania in a safe, efficient and courteous manner observing all road traffic rules and post security regulations.

The successful applicant must have an ABCE, clean driver’s licence, and good working knowledge of Nairobi, its environs and other areas of the country. The successful applicant also needs to be extremely efficient in managing his/her time in a dynamic environment that is liable to be change at very short notice. He/she should be able to think ahead and choose the best route for the journey, demonstrate initiative, be extremely discrete and polite in all dealings with both internal and external contacts as a representative of the British High Commission. He/she should be aware that NCA regulations necessitate the use of B6 armoured vehicles.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Conducting daily maintenance checks on NCA vehicles to ensure all vehicles are roadworthy before the start of any journeys.
  • Driving NCA and other BHC staff and visitors to meetings and functions in and around Nairobi, other parts of Kenya and Tanzania with B6 armoured vehicles.  
  • Meeting and escorting NCA officials and their visitors to and from Nairobi airports at varying hours of the day.
  • Assisting with any pick-up and delivery tasks, as required.
  • Ensuring that any vehicle driven is clean and has adequate fuel and oil to carry out any driving duties assigned by doing a daily inspection and submitting all purchase receipts and any mechanical problems to the NCA Office Manager.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations, including speed limits, ensuring the safety and security of the vehicle and passengers in your care.
  • Completing accurate journey record sheets for all journeys in official vehicles.
  • Ensuring vehicles are serviced at the stated mileage and all details documented in the logbook.
  • Keeping in touch with the office by using the existing radio and other communication systems.
  • Providing cover for colleagues on leave and working at the reception switchboard when called upon to assist.
  • Ensuring a high degree of confidentially and discreteness in discussions and travels, which involves NCA and BHC officials.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the NCA Office Manager. 

  • Able to communicate effectively in English and Swahili, in person, on the phone and in writing
  • Possess a clean police record and a full clean valid driving licence (ABCE)
  • Minimum of a secondary school education KCSE certificate
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Driver within a Government or NGO or Corporate/Office environment
  • Good knowledge of local city roads, locations of government offices and main roads to other parts of the country
  • Good computer skills
  • Good driver customer service protocols and proactive organisational skills
  • Specialised driver training
  • Experience of driving B6 armoured vehicles
  • First aid certificate
  • Current passport

Members of staff are entitled to paid annual leave, which is earned, from the day they commence employment. Entitlements are as follows:

In addition to annual leave, the BHC normally observes no fewer than 9 and no more than 14 Kenyan and British public and religious holidays in a year. These vary from year to year and are at the discretion of the High Commissioner. A list of holidays is published each year.
