The Consular Team in Phnom Penh provides consular assistance, advice and notarial services to British Nationals in Cambodia. This is a key supporting role within the team.  The successful applicant’s responsibilities include office administration and support to the Consular Team.  The notarial and documentary services, for which the successful applicant will have responsibility, include processing affirmations and oaths and issuing letters. The successful applicant will also assist on straight forward assistance cases. They will also need to engage with Cambodian government officials as well as other partners and stakeholders. There will be occasional travel within Cambodia. As a majority of our customers are British Nationals and the successful applicant will need to frequently interact with the Cambodian authorities, a high degree of fluency in English and  Khmer (both written and spoken) are essential.

Office administration and support to the consular team including:

  • Adding case notes, data entry and scanning documents onto Embassy casework system. Maintain system for electronic and paper files
  • Deal with incoming emails on a daily basis
  • Contacts list kept up to date
  • Key information for customers up-to-date
  • Up-dating waiting room literature
  • Logistical support for outreach activity (flights, transport)
  • Taking minutes of staff meetings
  • Section lead for contact hub amendments/updates

Basic consular assistance:

  • Provide support by arranging and on occasion accompanying Vice Consuls and the wider team on consular visits including to prisons, detention centres and hospitals
  • Focussing on straight forward death cases
  • Engaging with local Cambodian officials including police, immigration officers.
  • Assisting with translations and interpretations
  • Writing visit reports when accompanying other staff members                      

Crisis Preparedness:

  • Provide consular assistance to affected British Nationals in a crisis 
  • Notarial and documentary services for British nationals, timely processing and organisation of these services
  • Administrative experience
  • Excellent communications skills (English and Khmer)
  • IT skills
  • Experience of working in a customer service role

This is a one-year fixed-term employment.

We also offer 18 days of leave entitlement per annum in pro rata.
