Corporate Services Support

Main purpose of job:

This is a key role in the support of all users of the British Consulate-General’s IT network. Working as part of a team of two IT Support Officers within the Corporate Services Team, to ensure that the network runs smoothly, helping users to resolve IT issues and to get the most from the system.

Provide support to the wider Corporate Services Team on finance, procurement, and HR issues as required. Deliver presentations and training workshops to staff on IT related material and system updates.

The position will require a proactive approach to ensure that work is undertaken efficiently and the successful job holder will need to have a flexible approach to their work and working schedule.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

First line support for Consulate General’s primary Windows networks with approximately 100 users. (35%)

Anticipate and respond to user support requests in a timely and professional manner; troubleshoot and resolve user problems; provide training to users to help them make the most of the system; manage user accounts and access to the system; escalate problems to IT colleagues in the UK as appropriate.  

Hardware and network infrastructure support. (10%)

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network problems; escalate problems to IT colleagues in the UK as appropriate; rebuild, repair and replace faulty equipment; upkeep of hardware inventory.  

Management and support of non-business critical and PAG systems. (20%)

Manage user accounts and access to smaller Windows networks; management and support of hardware, software and network infrastructure; help set up rooms and equipment for presentations; provide support for users working on Partners Across Government (PAG) systems as required. 

Management of the BCG’s SharePoint site. (5%)

Maintain and support the Consulate-General’s internal SharePoint pages.

Corporate Services. (15%)

Provide general administrative support to other members of the Corporate Services Team (including covering absences) and involvement in the wider Corporate Services work (e.g. finance, procurement, HR).  Compile and present monthly statistics of IT help desk requests.

Corporate Activities. (15%)

Crisis Management/Business Continuity: Supporting the Logistics Lead. Maintaining the Consular Emergency Kit IT, including the bi-monthly testing of the equipment.

Deliver training workshops to all staff as and when necessary in line with IT updates.  Provide general IT related training such as Excel. 

Other: contributing towards the mission wide activities.

 

 


  • Strong IT skills (hardware, software and services) with some experience in IT support
  • Strong Knowledge of IT applications and MS Windows
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience providing administrative support to wider teams and maintaining integral customer relationships
  • holding a UK, US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand passport
  • Experience delivering training workshops and presentations
