To assess applications for entry clearance (visas) to the United Kingdom.

  • Take a considered and pragmatic decision on visa applications, abiding by the United Kingdom Immigration Rules, current legislation and guidance.
  • Processing high volume applications with the lowest risk to the UK. 
  • Undertake evidence based assessment of applications and identify those who qualify for visas and issue without delay, with strict adherence to procedures.
  • Prepare clear and correct reasons for entry clearance issue.

 

  • Provide flexible cross team support when operationally required.
  • Ability to work to meet demanding targets on a daily basis with limited supervision.
  • A typing speed of at least 40 wpm.
  • Experience working and / or living abroad.
  • Previous experience in immigration work relating to the United Kingdom or other countries with similar systems is desirable.
  • Good IT skills, knowledge of MS Office applications

This is a fixed-term employment for 6 to 7 months, to be further confirmed upon completion of security clearance.

Successful candidates will undergo a paid ECO mandatory training course which consists of a 1 week assessed course, either in the UK or at post in China. This is an assessed pass/ fail course, and candidates' final contract will depend upon passing this course.

Appointment of the successful candidates will also be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:

  • Nationals from the UK who have spent at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years in the UK (for applicants with diplomatic status, this may not apply);
  • Nationals from the UK who have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder);
  • Other nationals from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).

Necessary security clearance for this position can take at least two months and will require completion of a separate security interview which can take place either in the UK or in China (dates to be notified). Candidates must be available for this security interview at the times provided and adhere to the security clearance deadlines (to be provided to successful candidates) to be considered for this role.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. 

The abated monthly salary of RMB 13,866/ month for British Nationals and spouses/partners of all nationalities of diplomats who are ‘w’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria. A 5% bonus will be paid on completion of the full contract period.  

Net conditioned working hours are 35 hours per week (excluding lunch break), five (5) working days a week with two (2) consecutive days off. It is likely that the five working days could include Saturday or Sunday. There may also be a requirement for flexible shift working between 6AM and 11PM.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Successful candidates will will need to pay for their own travel costs and accommodation/ living costs while in Beijing. Please ensure that you have thoroughly investigated living and working in Beijing and all related costs before submitting your application.

Guidance on applying for the relevant Chinese visa will be provided to successful candidates and the visa application cost will be reimbursed once you are in post.
