The British Embassies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai has a vacancy for an Economic and Energy Adviser, grade C4(L).

The successful candidate will provide analysis, advice and reporting on economic and financial policy, related trade policy, and energy-related issues, promote the UK’s interests and build mutual understanding with our hosts in these areas. He/ She will monitor and report on developments in the finance and energy sectors, and will identify opportunities for the UK and UAE to work together in these fields.

Although the job is initially based in Abu Dhabi, we are open to look at flexible working arrangements between Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the successful candidate.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide expert, high quality analysis, advice and reporting to London stakeholders on UAE developments, including a weekly roundup on economic and energy issues;
  • Respond to UK government enquiries, providing accurate data and high quality information;
  • Contribute to wider regional economic reporting and work closely with the regional Prosperity Network and Department of International Trade (DIT) colleagues in support of the UK prosperity agenda;
  • Develop and maintain an accessible collection of core economic analysis, data and facts to support Embassy colleagues in their wider work;
  • Create and maintain a strong network of national and international contacts to progress our engagement, including experts in experts in government departments and agencies, and business;
  • Organise official visits which are related to economics/ finance/ energy and as requested by the team leader;
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Political/ Economic section and broader Embassy by actively contributing to corporate discussions.

Understanding UK Government aims in the wider UK and international context and developing productive relationships with those external contacts and partners to help deliver UK objectives
  • A degree in Eonomics or a degree with a strong Economic component, as well as a detailed understanding of current economic trends and issues.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a related field.
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills including fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • A confident self-starter with strong networking and relationship management skills in order to develop and maintain a wide network of contacts in the UAE and London across Departments: the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO); HM Treasury; Bank of England; International Trade (DIT); and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
  • Flexible approach, strong initiative and adaptability to changing UK priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and to take the initiative as well as being able to work well with others.
  • Arabic language skills

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of annual leave per annum, on-site parking and on-site swimming pool, gymnasium, and sports facilities.

Salary is at AED 19,970 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 15:06, including a lunch break of 36 minutes, from Sunday to Thursday.

Although the job is initially based in Abu Dhabi, we are open to look at flexible working arrangements between Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the successful candidate.
