The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for an energetic and motivated Policy Team Assistant.

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter, with excellent organisational skills and a good eye for detail. As a Policy Team Assistant you will provide vital administrative support to the Policy Team in the Embassy, working on a range of interesting subjects. The job will vary from day to day, so flexibility is an essential requirement, along with a practical problem-solving approach. Interest in and knowledge of Dutch politics is an asset.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing general administrative support to the Policy Team, including arranging meetings and booking travel;
  • Providing administrative and logistical support on visit programmes, including Ministerial visits;
  • Organising Policy Team events at the Residence in coordination with the Events Assistant and Residence Manager;
  • Managing the Policy Team’s expenditure budget;
  • Conducting ad-hoc research projects;
  • Providing cover for colleagues during periods of absence, mainly the Executive Assistant to the Ambassador and the Events Manager.
  • Frequent opportunities exist for all staff to contribute to the wider mission by volunteering for a variety of corporate roles.

    NB: The above breakdown of responsibilities is subject to changes in priorities, and may evolve over time and in response to changing circumstances. The role exists as part of a team and all staff are expected to be flexible in supporting colleagues, particularly at busy times.

                        Fluency in English and Dutch (both oral and written);

                        College level degree or equivalent experience;

                        Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure;

                        Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

                        Excellent IT skills, especially Excel.

                                  The successful candidate will initially be offered an one-year temporary contract at A2 level. The base salary for this position is €2.876,87 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% annual holiday allowance and a monthly travel allowance are payable. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff.

                                  Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands. Please note that The Embassy is not a tax withholding employer. Consequently staff members are responsible for paying their own income tax and social security on the gross salary received.

                                  The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check. Any job offer is provisional to a successful security clearance check.
