The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Communications Officer based in Astana, to cover a maternity leave of 6 months.

The main purpose of the job is to produce content and manage the British Embassy’s website and social media accounts, and support the Head of Communications to deliver communications work during high-level visits and public diplomacy events.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Embassy web-editor and primary editor of the Embassy’s social media channels. Lead on digital diplomacy;
  • Production of interesting and engaging content for the Embassy’s social media accounts (video blogs, info graphics, photo quotes, online competitions etc.);
  • Support to the Head of Communications in media work, including during high-level visits and public diplomacy events;
  • Management of the Embassy’s brand materials;
  • Handling routine enquiries, interpreting and translating, maintaining Embassy’s generic account, mailing lists and contacts data-bases;
  • Taking photographs and recording/editing videos for use on the social media;
  • Evaluation of digital diplomacy.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in related field (communications, public relations, social media management, marketing);
  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of digital media, including creating publishable content and understanding emerging digital services, tools and trends;
  • Proficient in English, Russian and Kazakh (both written and oral);
  • Previous experience in working with photo/video camera, edit photo & video footage, and make high-standard written translations;
  • Knowledge of writing social media strategy or digital campaign is necessary;
  • Ability to design and deliver digital campaigns using appropriate online media;
  • Ability to make social media analytics, analyse its results and provide advise;
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills are important.
  • Photographic and design skills.

This is a temporary full-time position of 5 working days (36 hours net) per week, excluding lunch hours, to cover a maternity leave of 6 months, with possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

Salary will be USD 974 per calendar month (gross). A 13th month salary is payable at the end of the year. Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to 25 working days leave per calendar year at the beginning of service. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.

The Embassy provides medical insurance for the jobholder and two dependants.
