Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy in Jakarta is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, defence, economic, trade, and consular interests around the world.  We currently looking to recruit a Post Security Manager (PSM) to join our high performing team. The successful candidate will support and assist the Post Security Office (PSO) and the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) in providing a safe and secure working/living environment for all staff at the British Embassy Jakarta and the British Consulate General In Bali.

The Post Security Manager (PSM) plays an important and integral role in the security team. The PSM needs to operate with the security team but also have the ability and flexibility to retain a certain level of decision making, and is encouraged to use his/ her initiative to be able to work without close supervision. Additionally, the PSM must also possess excellent communications skills and be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously to all levels within the Embassy and Consulate-General.

The PSM will also need to demonstrate good decision making capabilities and be able to offer solutions rather than just identify and pass on problems.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Acts as deputy to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) for security-related tasks at the British Embassy Jakarta.
  • Manage security and act as first point of contact with security contractor, conduct daily briefings and meetings, and also assist in providing security training for all staff and guards, including British Embassy induction training to contract guard force.
  • Monitoring contract guards’ disposition and ensure that manning levels are maintained. Conducting regular security visits and inspections of the British Embassy in Jakarta and Consulate-General in Bali and residential properties.
  • Establish and maintain contacts across the security community and develop a network of contacts at other embassies and close liaison/ contact with local high level police, law enforcement, and security officers/agencies.
  • Ensure that the maintenance regime for all security-related equipment is followed and requesting remedial repair action where faults are identified. Reporting all security deficiencies/ weaknesses and security breaches identified to the ROSM. Approve, recommend amendment as necessary and promulgate guard standard operating procedures for the Embassy, Consulate-General, HMA Residence, and residential properties in association with the ISS Security Coordinator.
  • Brief the ROSM on security matters that are or may affect the secure operation of the Embassy and issuing security advisory notices via email/ SMS to Embassy staff and, where necessary, spouses/ partners.
  • Provide assistance in staff security clearance procedures for all locally engaged staff and ISS employees. Other administrative/ professional tasks as detailed by the ROSM.
  • Assist in the coordination of security protocols during major events and VIP visits.
  • Assist and support Health & Safety and Fire Safety within the British Embassy. Conducting emergency reaction drills and weekly testing of all alarm systems.
  • Provide out-of-hours assistance, as required, to staff involved in security related incidents, e.g. traffic accident, criminal activity. To be available via telephone 24/7. Act as a member of the Crisis Emergency team and provide security advice and assistance during any crisis or emergency situation.
  • Manage and assist in the day to day running of the Transport Section.

The Post Security Manager has oversight of the ISS guard force and transport through direct liaison with the ISS Security Supervisors and Corporate Services. 

  • 5 years’ experience in managing a security team
  • A good working knowledge on investigations
  • Possess type “A” driver’s license
  • Knowledge of managing a transport section
  • Able to write and review investigative reports, logbooks, and other security reports
  • 2 years’ experience in coordinating and liaising with local government, local law enforcement agencies, and other security entities;
  • Understanding of radio and other communication system and technical security systems (CCTV, alarms, etc.) will be an advantage.
  • Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English
