Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (Operations and Corporate Services)
Information Technology Services

Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager (CSM), the successful candidate will provide IT support for the British High Commission Singapore (BHC). This role sits within the Corporate Services team (CST) and works closely with the IT helpdesk in the UK and Secure Technical Services team at Post to provide services to the 130 staff across 2 sites in Singapore, together with the Deputy ITSO.

This is a hands on, practical IT role in a friendly, flexible team at the heart of the BHC. The successful candidate can expect a wide range of work dealing with the full spectrum of local IT issues and should be committed to providing an empathetic, customer focused service.

End User Support (Hardware and Software)

  • Ensure compliant joiner, mover and leaver processes for IT
  • Anticipate and respond to user support requests in a timely and professional manner, using the global IT helpdesk team as a first line of response
  • Troubleshoot and resolve user problems
  • Provide ad-hoc training to users to help them make the most of the system, including Office 365
  • Manage user accounts and access to the system including distribution lists

Hardware and network infrastructure support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network problems
  • Ensure server rooms and racks are well maintained
  • Escalate problems to IT colleagues in the UK as appropriate
  • Rebuild, repair and replace faulty equipment as advised by the UK
  • Maintain pool of non Firecrest laptops
  • Upkeep of hardware inventory, data register and other audit requirements

Mobile Phone/ Desk Phones

  • Troubleshoot and resolve user problems
  • Oversee account management with telephony provider; run bi annual vender review and annual vendor meetings to ensure value for money and service level agreement is met
  • Set up and configure desk phones

Audio Visual (AV) Support

  • Maintain AV equipment at Post
  • Advise on most effective use of technology to deliver AV at Post

Other IT Support

  • Support global technology upgrades and campaigns, including communications with staff, training and stakeholder management
  • Proactively work with Technology Learning Advisor, other regional ITSOs and Knowledge & Technology Directorate to ensure Post fully leverages technology and is aware of any changes
  • Actively participate in global online IT communities to share and seek best practice
  • Provide IT support for office moves and renovations

Line Management of Deputy IT Support Officer

  • Supervise the day to day work of the Deputy ITSO; including performance management and relevant learning and development
  • Cover for the duties of the Deputy ITSO in their absence

Crisis Management

  • Lead IT crisis Management/business continuity for Post using global templates and guidelines
  • Maintain emergency kit IT, including the bi-monthly testing of the equipment
  •  Strong IT skills (hardware, software and services) supported by IT related qualifications with some experience in IT support;
  • Strong Knowledge of IT applications and MS Windows, including Office 365 suite
  • Excellent customer service skills, a ‘can-do’ pragmatic attitude and a willingness to lend a hand across the team as required
  • Good communication skills with all levels of staff
  • Experience in delivering IT training
  • Knowledge of server cabling and rack management
  • Line management experience

Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday.  The BHC Singapore supports and promotes flexible working as a crucial part of our inclusive offering. This particular role allows for flexibility in start and end times, with minimum 30 hours a week and working from home one day a week once you are operationally set up.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. This is a locally engaged position subject to local laws and terms. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks.
