The British Embassy in Romania is part of a world-wide network, representing British consular, economic and political interests overseas. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chancery Support Officer.

The main purpose of the job is to bolster the support for the Head of the Ambassador’s Office, the Deputy Head of Mission and Senior Diplomatic staff. You will provide support on diaries, travel logistics, financial management and liaise with other departments in the British Embassy and across our global network in supporting our objectives. You will need to be flexible as no two days will be the same but you will join an established and friendly team committed to development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate senior leadership diaries, arrange and coordinate programmes & transport plans, with support from colleagues deliver well-planned detailed programmes and lead on logistics, in cooperation with other team members.
  • Accompany senior staff to meetings to take notes and circulate written record and follow up on action points where needed.
  • Support the wider work in the Embassy including providing surge capacity for our crisis work and stand in for the Ambassadors head of office as well as engaging in corporate activities.  

  • High School Diploma/Baccalaureate.
  • 2 years relevant work experience.
  • Good understanding of delivering a quality service at a senior level.
  • A solid understanding of Microsoft.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to organise self and work effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; confidence in dealing with senior contacts and colleagues, and in handling customers.
  • Ability to work independently and (more importantly) as part of a team.
  • Fluent oral and written English and Romanian.

  • An understanding of Romanian Government.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of French language.

This is a full-time (35 hours net per week), fixed-term contract for 2 years with possibility of an extension.

The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 4,048 RON gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania.

For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinance 79/2017 is in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of RON 805 gross monthly.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 calendar days.
