Main purpose of job:


 


Senior Security Officer supervising a guard force of 8 security officers responsible for 24/7 security guarding, and weekday public Receptionist duties, at the UK Government Offices in New York (885 Second Ave., NY).


Manages 8 security officers and all day-to-day site security.


Supports Security Manager.





Roles and responsibilities:

-          Lead on management of day-to-day site security at the UK Government Offices in New York


-          Line manage 8 x Security Officers who are working the 24/7 shift roster covering day guards, Receptionist and night/ weekend guard duties.


-          Manage shift rosters and other staff management duties such as training, team-building, standards etc.


-          Carry out new staff induction security briefings and other staff engagement around security procedures.


-          Manage procedures and standards around security patrols and routines, logs and checks, management of passes, access control including freight elevator access, locks and keys and security equipment.


-          Liaison with Building management on security management and security concerns.


-          Ensure procedures and responsibilities for the guards are implemented to a consistent and high-standard.


-          Provide ad hoc support to the Security Manager on key security management policy and procedure, on personnel security and vetting staff and on administration of security assets, registers and logs etc.


-          Provide cover & resilience for Security Officers at the public Receptions, in escorting contractors and other security guard duties in the offices at times of absence, during breaks and busy periods.


-          Support, as necessary on security at events and with high-level visitors.


-          Provide security support to the UK Government offices crisis and business continuity planning work.


-          Other ad hoc tasks as directed by Security and Corporate Service Managers.



Essential Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Must be a British, US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand citizen.
  • Must be of exemplary character, and have the utmost integrity and professionalism. Full background checks and vetting procedure are carried out.

 

The jobholder must have an adaptable approach with a willingness to learn and work flexibly across a broad range of issues including new areas not covered above which might emerge during the individual’s time in the role. Portfolios and responsibilities can be adjusted within the UK Office so the successful candidate will be one who is flexible and open to change to their role and continuous improvement. All staff in the UK Office take on ad hoc tasks, new work which emerges unexpectedly and help other teams on work which is not part of their usual role at times of pressure and increased workload. So the successful candidate will be collaborative and willing to help others enthusiastically.



Essential Skills / Qualities:


  • At least 4 years work experience in the security sector/ law enforcement/ military, ideally office-based security and with proven experience in managing security teams.
  • Excellent people engagement skills and first-rate customer service, including a proven track-record in dealing with members of the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ideally, experience of managing a security team/ security guards.
  • A high degree of professionalism and strong ability to represent the UK government externally to visitors and other members of the public.
  • Adaptable, flexible and energetic; ability to work well in a team and to show leadership and judgement in helping a team work collaboratively to deliver shared tasks and help others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows 10, particularly Word, Outlook and Excel, as well as bespoke IT security, access control & CCTV systems.


Desirable experience:


  • Current holder of New York Security Guard Licence an advantage.
  • Previous experience of working in the Diplomatic community, especially if in New York, is helpful.
  • Previous experience of liaison with law enforcement, especially if in New York, is desirable.
  • Local knowledge of New York useful.
