Community Liaison

The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Community Liaison Officer (CLO).

The jobholder will promote the well-being of all permanent UK-based staff and families at Riyadh (FCO and PAGs) and strengthen the KSA network community and advocate for and provide support on community and family issues, principally by gathering and disseminating information and promoting welfare. The jobholder will also be required to engage effectively with all staff across Post on Embassy community and social matters.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Information gathering for UK-based officers and their spouses/ partners and families (including those not yet at Post), including: opportunities for spouse/ partner employment at Post; children's education (through completion of separate HR School and Nursery Information Sheets on authorised schools at Post); feedback on adult education; career and training opportunities; single officer and foreign-born spouse/ partner issues; recreational facilities; social matters; and completion of DSFA Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Reports.
  • Welfare at Post - Welcoming all permanent UK-based staff and accompanying families on first arrival to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the Post community; following up to check that the settling in process is working; being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; providing a short Post community induction.
  • Advocate for UK-based staff and families in addressing issues of importance with Post Management, including as their representative on committees such as the KSA Network Management Board, the Post Security Committee, the Crisis Management Committee, and the Post Housing Committee, and as the chief link between Post and DSFA in London.
  • Communicating effectively on community and social matters pertaining to UK-based staff and families via social media and newsletters.
  • Information management - Maintain a Post Welcome Pack; input to, update, and review of Post Report and Fact Sheet; coordination of the provision of domestic equipment floats (supplies) upon arrival or departure.
  • Ad hoc projects as requested by the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Corporate Services.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer focus.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Strong IT skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet.
  • Digital media skills.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Background in counselling or similar supportive role would be helpful.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 5,534.53
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 1,383.63 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.


No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), especially during major events.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi nationals and holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable Iqamas. Successful candidates will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.
