The British Embassy in Muscat is looking for two Digital Hub Interns who will be employed for the duration of three months, and on boarded consecutively one after the other.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To support the UK Oman Digital Hub in building digital skills, innovation, entrepreneurship and cyber security capabilities across Oman.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intern will work directly to support British Embassy Muscat's new initiative, the UK Oman Digital Hub, designed to raise digital skills, innovation, entrepreneurship and cyber security across Oman.

The intern will have three key roles:

  • Leading on the Hub’s communications strategy, and social media feeds. They will be responsible for posting and sharing content to raise awareness of the Hub’s projects, as well as growing the social media following to ensure we are able to communicate directly with our target demographic.
  • Supporting the project management of delivery of several key projects focussed on developing Digital Innovation and Digital Economy, particularly working with Omani education, incubator and accelerator programmes, and helping shape future programmes.
  • Representing the Digital Hub externally; attending events in the Omani tech space and identifying new projects that the Hub can support and deliver in Financial Year 2021/2022.

Key Competencies:

The candidate will need to demonstrate the following competencies during the interview:

  • Collaborating and Partnering: People skilled in this area create and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of people within and outside the Civil Service to help get business done.
  • Leading and Communicating: Effectiveness in this area is about leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm.
  • Managing a Quality Service: This area is about being organised to deliver service objectives and striving to improve the quality of service, taking account of diverse customer needs and requirements.
  • Professional fluency in English and Arabic both written and spoken.
  • Competent IT skills; good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in communications and Social Media campaigns.
  • Evidence of project delivery and management.
  • Experience of working with digital technologies.

Working Conditions and Remuneration:

We are looking to hire two interns for the duration of three months, and on boarding consecutively one after the other allowing for a one-week handover. The first internship from 28/2/2021 to 20/05/2021 followed by the second internship 16/5/2021 to 05/8/2021. Dates are indicative and may change due to recruitment timetables.

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including salary of 150 Omani Riyals per month inclusive of all allowances; and use of on-site recreational facilities (including a swimming pool and social club).

Normal working hours are 07:30 – 14:30 Sunday to Thursday.  This position is open to flexible hours as agreed with line management. In addition, may require some attendance at evening functions. This is an Internship role for 3 months.

The Intern will have the opportunity to learn about key elements of UK Government, including the Foreign Office and National Cyber Security Centre. The intern will also have the opportunities to develop knowledge on cyber-security, education, skills and digital technology.
