The British Defence Staff in the United States (BDSUS) has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join the United States Support Group (USSG) as the EAD, Passport and Visa Officer located in the British Embassy in Washington DC. This opportunity is a rewarding role which supports and further develops the special relationship between the UK and the US.
The USSG Support delivers support across the USA network for British Defence Staff civilian and Service personnel (ca 800+ people posted across the USA).  We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a real passion for service delivery and an ability to communicate effectively and clearly with a range of internal and external stakeholders.  This is a chance to directly contribute to the way in which both Governments collaborate and negotiate on personnel support across the US footprint. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging with external US government stakeholders to facilitate the processing of Employment Authorisation Documents and Visa renewals.  In addition, the post holder will be responsible for providing internal stakeholders with expert advice surrounding the process of renewing their personal and official passports. The post holder will also be accountable for working collaboratively with stakeholders in the United Kingdom, facilitating the registration of births for all MOD dependants across the US footprint. 
The ideal candidate will be a self-driven team player, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders from all levels whilst under pressure.  The successful candidate should be IT literate and have previous experience working within an administrative support role.

Whilst experience in a professional office setting would be advantageous, it is not essential; applications from candidates with broader experience are also welcomed.  Attention to detail, a positive attitude and strong teamwork ethic will be paramount.

This network provides a platform for approximately 30 Government departments and agencies to conduct their work in the United States and is made up of over 900 staff with a rich and diverse background, skill sets, and experiences.

Roles and responsibilities:


•    Coordination, recording and processing of Employment Authorisation Documents, Visa Renewals and Passport applications from MOD Personnel and their dependants.
•    Recording and processing all birth registrations for MOD personnel in the United States.
•    Provide advice to customers and management surrounding the process and administration of Employment Authorisation Documents, Passport & Visa renewals and birth registrations. 
•    Maintain and update the BDSUS Oracle database with personal information of US based MOD personnel as required.
•    Maintain and update the BDSUS Information Portal, ensuring all guidance relating to Employment Authorisation Documents, Passport & Visa renewals and birth registrations remain up to date. 
•    Process and manage US Support Group stationery requests.
•    Responsible for maintaining personnel information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and HMG Information Management policy. 
•    Conduct any mandatory training as required by His Majesty’s Government.
•    Provide administrative support to support the wider activities of the US Support Group as when required. 
•    Carry out any other task which is commensurate to the grade.

Working pattern:

Monday – Friday between 0700 – 1900

This role is 40 hours per week however, the department will consider 32 hours per week to the right candidate.
