The British Consulate General in Casablanca is seeking a smart and hardworking team player to take up the internship position of Events Officer, grade AO, on a fixed term internship period of six (6) months.

The Intern Events Officer will support the Department for International Trade (DIT) team in the organisation of events, including high profile VIP visits, trade missions, and dialogues, plus social activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Senior Trade Advisers (STAs) in their activities, including in the recording of meetings and events, and play a key role in ensuring Consulate events are planned, executed, and washed up following the set events processes and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have very strong organisation and communication skills, be able to prioritise and work flexibly, and work collaboratively with colleagues. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of DIT events (trade missions, exhibitions, VIP visits), including drafting and sending out invitations based on provided guest lists, collating RSVPs, writing event summaries, and overseeing the events themselves.
  • Provide detailed briefs and obtain adequate quotes from suppliers for event services. Manage invoices for events and order supplies (including alcohol), ensuring value for money and adherence to procurement policy.
  • Build and maintain an events float for the Consulate in cooperation with the Estates team.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external suppliers and contract staff for events, including building and maintaining these relationships.
  • Help maintain a strategic forward look of events in consultation with Embassy colleagues and the DIT team. Liaise closely with the DIT Team, Office Manager, Communications Team, Embassy colleagues, and others involved in events/ engagements.
  • Manage and update an extensive contacts database for the Consulate.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have a right to work and live in Morocco.

  • Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including ability to organise and prioritise workloads, organise records, meet deadlines and maintain close attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to build co-operative working relationships across a large network, including external contacts.
  • Excellent customer focus and responsive to customer needs. Demonstrates courtesy and consideration treats others with respect regardless of work pressures.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise flexibly and use own initiative to deliver to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours during events.
  • Previous event management experience.
  • Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken.

The Consulate General aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross remuneration of MAD 17,208.00 per month. However, individuals who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this internship position.

This is a full-time internship position on a fixed term basis for six (6) months.

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week. Normal office hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:00-16:15 and Friday from 08:00-13:00.

Given the need to be present at events, this role will involve some working in evenings and occasional weekends. Time off in lieu will be given for any hours worked outside normal office hours.

Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) and Embassy policies. Independent working will be tested as a behaviour in interviews.

The Embassy and the FCDO have a strong commitment to learning and development, and all staff are required to agree on a learning and development plan with their line manager.
