The British Embassy in Poland is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Programme Officer to work as part of the Bilateral Team in the delivery of the Embassy’s objectives in Poland.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Embassy’s programme of bilateral projects (including Global Britain) in line with FCO guidelines;
  • Administer and serve as Secretary of the Embassy’s programme board;
  • Manage the Embassy’s bilateral programme budget (c. £150,000), including forecasting, updating, reconciliation etc;
  • Fundraising;
  • Procurement;
  • Negotiating, signing and managing contracts with project sponsors and external suppliers;
  • Central liaison with key internal and external (e.g. sponsors, legal experts) stakeholders;
  • Project manage the development and implementation of individual programme projects as necessary;
  • Support the Project Manager of the Polish-British Belvedere Forum in developing and delivering the annual event;
  • Manage the Bilateral, Internal and Comms (BIC) section budgets, including forecasting, updating, reconciliation etc;
  • Perform other tasks as well as provide support to the BIC section as and when required.

  • Fluency in English and Polish;
  • Bachelors degree or higher in related field;
  • Project management experience, including developing and delivering large-scale conferences;
  • Experience managing and administrating large programme budgets (c. £150,000);
  • Experience with procurement, including running public tenders;
  • Proven analytical skills and financial background;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and on own initiative;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software, particularly Excel.

  • Knowledge of the FCO’s programme, procurement, and sponsorship guidelines;
  • Project Management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2 or similar);
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and financial management systems (e.g. Hyperion).

This is a full-time position of 5 days (37.5 net per week) for a two year fixed-term contract which may be extended by mutual agreement.

The gross salary for this position is PLN 7,634 PLN gross per month.

Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by the local law.

Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 20 or 26 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Polish / UK public holidays per year.

Candidates must have pre-existing right to live and work in Poland for the duration of the job offer in order to apply. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Warsaw are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to Polish employment law.

The successful candidate will be subject to the Polish background check and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months. Candidates must have pre-existing work authorisation for Poland in order to apply.
