The successful candidate will lead on the Embassy’s external communications and provide analysis of political developments in Kyrgyzstan, reporting them to London.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyse and report on Kyrgyz and regional political developments, including external relations. Organise and participate in official visits (including for senior level visitors) within and outside Kyrgyzstan.

  • Lead on continuing development and implementation of the British Embassy’s communications strategy to secure high-profile and positive media coverage of British Embassy activity.  This will include: working with teams in the Embassy, with other British Embassies in the region and with London to create and source content for the British Embassy website and social media platforms; and identifying and maximising opportunities for media engagement. 

  • Maintain and develop a strong network of contacts to support the Embassy’s work across these areas.

  • Minimum three years of work experience in a communications or political role, with a knowledge and usage of the latest communications techniques/approaches

  • Understanding of the Kyrgyz politics

  • Experience of preparing political reporting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills enabling effective communication and ability to adapt communication style to different situations and stakeholders in English and Russian (minimum C1 level for CEFR framework *)

  • Able to establish strong contact networks and deal effectively with senior level interlocutors

  • Strong analytical and judgement skills

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively and flexibly

  • A self-starter who can produce ideas for posts on social media, and who can work well both individually and in a team

  • Experience of managing budgets and procurement

  • Experience working in an international environment

  • Ability to effectively communicate in Kyrgyz

This is a full-time permanent position, 36 hours per week.

Working hours from: Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00, but flexibility on working patterns is offered.

The gross salary per month is USD 1,717. Please note that 13th monthly salary is paid pro rata in November.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance and 3 month probation period.

All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Kyrgyzstan. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kyrgyzstan are subject to terms and conditions service according to Kyrgyz employment.
