Main purpose of job:

Provide support to the Development Programme team at the British Embassy in Mexico, dividing their time between activities related to the Skills for Prosperity Programme (60%) - such as financial and contract management, and general administrative support - and development communications and secondary benefits support (40%) for the wider embassy programme portfolio.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the Skills for Prosperity Programme and its Green Skills sub-element through programme management responsibilities, including but not limited to reviewing deliverables, supporting the financial revisions of the programme, engagement with internal and external stakeholders and general coordination with the implementing partner.
  • Provide support to the development communications campaign, specifically by taking on diverse pieces of work such as monitoring relevant programme activity, helping in the drafting of key development communications materials, drafting lines and messages for events and social media, gathering testaments from the different programmes’ beneficiaries through interviews, written requests, as well as gathering key programme impact information through other means, including logical frameworks and programme indicators.
  • Assist the programme managers in activities related to promoting commercial opportunities for UK businesses, including, by supporting engagements with the Department of International Trade (DIT) sectorial leads to identify priorities and interests, helping identify areas of business where programme activity may overlap DIT priorities, and by supporting all clerical activities that support these objectives.
  • Understand programme impact and cultivate an understanding around the sectors covered by the Development Programmes, with a specific focus on the Skills for Prosperity Programme.
  • Support on internal and external events logistics/agendas/coordination (book flights/accommodation) for the wider Development Section.

Essential on arrival: Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, organisation skills, ability to summarise information, writing texts and copy skills, social media experience (Twitter, LinkedIn), office basic skills; experience developing impact stories or storytelling.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Spanish

Level of language required: Excellent language skills both written and spoken.

Desirable: Digital design skills or familiarity with programmes such as InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or others.
