The British Embassy, based in The Hague, is part of a worldwide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for two interns to support the high performing Department for International Trade (DIT) team. 

 

DIT supports both UK companies to trade internationally and foreign companies looking to establish or expand operations in the UK through the provision of tailored information and guidance. Based in the Hague, DIT Netherlands helps Dutch companies invest in the UK and British companies export to the Netherlands.

The internship offers a great opportunity for a talented and highly motivated individual to gain insight into the international business environment, with direct exposure to the workings of an important bilateral Embassy. Working together with a team of experienced Trade & Investment advisers, the role offers the opportunity to make a real impact. One intern will support DIT’s Trade Team with market research projects, event management and enquiry handling. The other intern will support the DIT Investment team with account management and event organisation activities.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

Trade intern

  • Supporting the team’s Business Development Officer in addressing and answering incoming trade enquiries from UK companies across a variety of sectors;
  • Supporting senior colleagues in the Trade team with gathering market information; conducting research for market update briefings, reports and presentations;
  • To support colleagues with preparing and hosting business events (trade shows, trade missions) at the Embassy or at external locations.

 

Investment intern

  • Supporting senior colleagues in the Investment team with the organisation of events; identifying stakeholders in the Dutch market and taking responsibility for the logistics of the event;
  • Supporting senior colleagues with account management activities, updating databases and information assets.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Dutch, written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*;
  • Currently undertaking studies in a higher education institution (HBO/University) based in the Netherlands to at least June 2023.
  • A good understanding of the UK and/or Netherlands business environment including business drivers.

The successful candidate will be offered a 6 months fixed-term internship contract. The base salary for this position is € 400 gross per month, based on a working week of 20 hours.

 

 Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands. 

 

The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; Any job offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.

Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in The Netherlands and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
