The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Post Security Manager grade B3 (L)

The Post Security Manager will be responsible for leading the day-to-day security provision in the Embassy, its facilities, rented and owned apartments.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) in the daily assurance of security to the British Embassy Cairo. Deputise for the ROSM when absent including acting as Security Manager in the event of a crisis, and provide briefings to new staff on security environment and arrangements.

  • Line management responsibilities, overseeing all aspects of the Embassy Guard Force. Leadership and performance management of that team to include: maintaining first class guarding standards, crisis readiness, completion of security logs, skills development, promoting an inclusive and supportive culture, providing regular and constructive feedback, proper adherence to Embassy Appraisal processes.  Setting first-class, friendly guarding standards for the team is the priority for this role.
  • Actively carry out line management responsibilities of the GS to include: performance management, staff development, providing regular and constructive feedback and to follow the recognised Appraisal cycle.
  • Report to the ROSM daily on the previous 24-hours by 0830 on matters relating to the Embassy estate, and incidents of interest and emerging situations, which may affect security.
  • Responsible for the overall management of the Contract for Maintenance of Blockers. Regular meetings with company and reporting to the Post Procurement Committee on Risks and Issues.
  • Responsible for the overall management of the Contract for Maintenance of Gates. Regular meetings with company and reporting to the Post Procurement Committee on Risks and Issues.
  • Manage X-Ray machine annual service contract. Ensure X-Ray machines are maintained and in working order and that annual servicing is conducted on time.
  • Set and oversee highest professional standards of the Embassy guard force.
  • Regularly check with GS that all appropriate security logs are maintained in a correct and tidy manner.
  • Be a daily presence in the Embassy and to field questions and requests from staff and the DSOs.
  • Conduct emergency drills and in the event of an emergency alarm taking responsibility for identifying the cause and resulting necessary action.
  • Maintain liaison with Police, other security organisations and neighbouring friendly missions.
  • Take a leading role in the design and delivery of security plans for regular large scale functions at the Embassy, under guidance from the ROSM.
  • Record Embassy staff travel for security and ensure liaison with DSOs for issue of relevant travel equipment.
  • Undertake property inspections and reports.
  • Undertake Hotel assessments and reports. In line with ESD assessment of safety and security standards in Hotels and to inform Post Security Committee when deciding on ‘Marker’ hotels.
  • The jobholder will have a good degree of autonomy though will have the full support of colleagues across the mission. S/he will need to work flexibly to prioritise against competing demands. An ability to maintain effective networks within the Post, and externally is essential.
  • Consular is to be made aware of all and any approaches of British nationals reported through GS and DSO.
  • The jobholder will also have the opportunity to engage in wider Corporate Services or Post corporate roles.
  • The jobholder will have responsibility for contract management of the guarding contract at the Consulate building in Alexandria and the Resilience Guarding contract for Cairo.
  • The jobholder will be the Security representative on the Knowledge and Technology committee.
  • The jobholder will be the Security representative on the procurement committee.

  • A minimum of 2 years previous experience of team management.
  • Significant previous experience of a customer-facing role within a dynamic and busy environment.
  • Knowledge of security policy and procedures.
  • Collaborative approach to colleague and stakeholder partnerships. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to think rationally, maintain professionalism and take decisive action when under pressure and during challenging situations.
  • Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative and manage others.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work quickly, reliably and proactively with attention to detail and with limited supervision.
  • A valid full driving licence.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
      • Formal security related training qualification.
      • Experience of security risk management.
      • Previous military, police, or commercial security industry experience.

      The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 1,374 per month subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations based on a 36 hours per week. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. 

      We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training & development, etc.

      This is for a full time employment, on a fixed term basis for one-year. 

      There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
