Main Purpose of the Job:

To work as the leading member of the Residence team to safeguard that the Residence is run efficiently in accordance with the FCDO’s and HOM’s guidelines. This involves in liaising with the Residence Manager and Residence Staff by ensuring that duties and responsibilities are shared in the best way to deliver excellent service.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

  • To ensure the Residence is ready to receive Ambassador’s guests for official engagements, including senior Philippine officials, international visitors and senior UK dignitaries.
  • To provide an excellent service to VIP’s, Ministers visitors, and alike.
  • Play a leading role in the organisation, preparation and delivery of Residence events such as but not limited to tea times, lunches, dinners, receptions, garden events, including the King’s Birthday Party.  
  • To maintain the Residence working areas in compliance with relevant health and safety standards including effective management of waste and recycling.
  • To keep and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Residence by good housekeeping skills.
  • To inform the Residence Manager of any top up of wet and dry goods, laundry and cleaning materials and other necessary items to maintain sufficient supplies.
  • Caring for crystals and stock-keeping silver, cutlery and glassware. Reporting of any breakage and discrepancies to Residence Manager.
  • Assist the Chef when there is a function in the preparation only when needed.
  • Prepare and serve meals for the Ambassador and his family when required and wash up.
  • To liaise with JLL (facilities management) on a case to case base to raise a work order for urgent item/s.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

  • No direct line management responsibility, but responsible for working closely with a Residence team and the Residence Manager.
  • Responsible for management, inventory and reporting of any and all household items, loss, discrepancy or breakage.
  • Responsible for filing of Cash Imprest.
  • Experience in handling VIP and VVIP guests
  • Experience of event management, including set-up, table setting and service, and customer service
  • Knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Background in Food Handling Safety
  • Acceptable housekeeping skills
  • Computer literate

Language requirements:

  • Language: English/Tagalog
  • Level of language required: Basic
  • Experience of complex event set-up
  • Knowledge of flower arrangement and gardening
  • Knowledge in food and wine pairing

Working Patterns:

This job requires a high degree of flexibility, involving weekend, early morning and evening work or even stay in at the Residence if necessary. Time off in lieu will be granted.

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Manila is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Philippine employment law.
