The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has a worldwide network of embassies and consulates, employing over 17,000 in nearly 270 diplomatic offices. We work with international organisations and governments to promote UK interests and global security.

 

The British Embassy in Tallinn is part of this world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Press and Public Affairs Officer to support Embassy’s Head of Press & Public Affairs in implementation of British Embassy Tallinn’s communications strategy, with main focus on social media. 

 

You will manage and further develop Embassy digital channels by planning, producing and publishing creative and engaging content that will appeal to target audiences and deliver key messages.

 

You will support Embassy colleagues in setting up and managing events and campaigns.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Head of Press and Public Affairs in development of communication strategies, planning and implementing campaigns and events, and maintaining communication contacts network;
  • Support the Ambassador with digital communication as requested;
  • Plan, create and publish engaging digital content in support of the Embassy’s communications strategy, including: 

- Coordinate with colleagues in the Embassy, in the region and in London to produce creative and engaging videos, photos, infographics, posts and tweets.

- Work with partners like British Council, NATO Battlegroup, Estonian Embassy in London, etc., to identify opportunities for  joint communications efforts on social media and beyond. 

- Ensure localisation and timely publication of relevant centrally-produced FCDO content on the Embassy’s social media channels.  

- Monitor comments and messages sent to the Embassy through its social media channels, drafting responses as necessary with input from colleagues.

 

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the Embassy’s social media activity to improve future work and increase audience and engagement. Report on impact as required;
  • Monitor traditional and social media in Estonia for trends and messages relevant to UK-Estonian bilateral relations. Keep up to date monitoring lists of key influencers in political, prosperity, trade, academic and cultural areas. Report developments to colleagues as required.
  • The ability to speak and write English (to at least level C1 CEFR);
  • The ability to speak and write Estonian (to at least level C1 CEFR);
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in managing and delivering digital marketing/communications campaigns on social media platforms, including developing channel strategies;
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, awareness of the latest digital trends and strong practical knowledge of using digital tools;
  • Excellent writing/editorial skills, the ability to write and edit engagingly for social media in Estonian and English;
  • Basic experience in visual content creation, e.g. infographics, also photo and video capture and editing;
  • Strong communicational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, respond flexibly to changing priorities;
  • Experience working in a large organisation’s brand guidelines and codes of conduct;
  • Ability to grasp complex issues quickly and communicate them digitally in an effective way.
  • The ability to speak and write Russian (to at least level A2 CEFR);
  • Experience in developing and delivering strategic campaigns to advance policy or other formal objectives;
  • Experience of using data analytics to evaluate performance of social media channels and campaigns.

This is a full-time permanent contract.

 

The annual leave entitlement is 20 working days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 public holidays per year.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
