Who we are:

The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the worldwide UK diplomatic network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are seeking to recruit a new member of staff – Information Technology Support Officer (ITSO)/Corporate Services Assistant.

What are we looking for:

The ITSO/Corporate Services Assistant will work with the Corporate Services Team to ensure the delivery of IT services and equipment for internal staff in time and in line with the British Embassy’s expectations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service whilst meeting the diverse requirements of IT security and systems integrity.

The ITSO will act as local Help Desk support responding to queries, including support of telecommunications and video-conferencing.

You will also act as backup to general office support requirements. We are looking for a highly professional individual, flexible, well organised and adept at juggling competing demands, as well as being able to manage customer and central IT department expectations.

Main responsibilities will include:

IT Administration, User Support

  • Act as the central point of contact for all technical ID requests and for technical visits;
  • Proactively maintain and support the Information and Communications Technology infrastructure and client systems (including hardware support and manipulation) according to FCDO guidance;
  • Carry out system monitoring, problem resolution and oversee fault escalation procedures;
  • Report incidents to central Helpdesk and escalate through the correct channels where necessary;
  • Use administration tools to manage user accounts;
  • Ability to support video-conferencing and hybrid meetings for internal and external events.
  • Be responsible for managing compliance with IT Security Procedures;
  • Review, procure, install and maintain hardware as required including supporting cabling, switches and hubs;
  • Organize software training at Post including delivery of training for the Embassy staff in co-operation with relevant training organisations as required.

Corporate Services

  • Assist with suppliers requisition and supervision of quality services delivery;
  • Assist with clearances of diplomatic bags in and out operations;
  • Support the Estates Manager with Health and Safety regulation to be implemented at the British Embassy and maintaining up to date documentation;
  • Provide efficient and user-friendly Business Continuity Plan/Crisis Preparedness – IT Contingency solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Qualification or degree in IT or HND, computer networking, hardware and internet operation;
  • General understanding of IT networking principles/practices
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good knowledge of MS office
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to work in a team, with strong customer focus skills and with limited supervision to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, attention to detail and good follow-up discipline; 
  • Previous IT Support experience in a corporate environment, installation and maintenance of desktops, laptops, mobile devices, server hardware and software;
  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
  • Experience in hardware support and providing IT training;
  • A recognised IT qualification;
  • Fluency in Norwegian (not essential).

This is a full-time permanent position, five working days (currently 35 hours net) per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy Oslo are subject to terms and conditions of service in accordance with Norwegian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Norway and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
