Who we are:
The British Embassy in Tirana is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and now is seeking a Chevening and Youth Programme Officer. The main purpose of the job is to administer the UK’s prestigious Chevening Scholarships Programme, which grants awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at UK universities. Approximately 20 scholarships are awarded to Albanian students every year.
This position is a full-time, one-year renewable contract.

What is expected of the role:

Chevening Programme management:

  • Promoting the Chevening scholarship programme, developing and implementing an outreach strategy aiming to attract high numbers of high quality applicants
  • Providing support to the Chevening application process in Albania, including reviewing applications, preparation for interviews, updating the Chevening e-system with short-lists and results and organisation of pre-departure briefings
  • You will be expected to arrange, coordinate and sit on interview panels for a high number of potential Chevening Scholars
  • Liaising with the relevant International Programme Officer / Senior International Programme Officer at the Chevening Secretariat to coordinate the application and selection process
  • Updating and establishing an effective Chevening alumni network, handling the organisation of Chevening related events and overseeing the implementation of alumni-lead projects
  • Monitoring the Chevening marketing budget, keeping records of promotional material, contacting suppliers for quotations and following up that new orders are produced according to the Chevening branding guidelines
  • Creatively using social media to reach a diverse range of potential applicants inside Albania. Generate written and visual content for social media, press, radio and TV
  • Responding to enquiries regarding the scheme and acting as point of contact with the Embassy communication team on Chevening-related outreach activities.
  • Support other Programme management work and administrative duties as tasked
  • Adhering to deadlines and requests set Chevening Secretariat, such as submitting annual programme, marketing and alumni plans, and country briefings
  • Responding to enquiries regarding the scheme and acting as point of contact with the Embassy team on Chevening-related marketing activities, application process and alumni events
  • Maintaining positive relationships with applicants and award recipients before, during and after their award

Partnerships:

  • Consider opportunities using judgement and sensitivity to develop local partnerships to support and account-manage existing partnerships including outreach, engagement and data management
  • Engage the wider Post and businesses to get their input and support to develop partnerships
  • Ensure any existing partnerships are managed effectively, working with the secretariat to ensure timely payments from partners

Supporting Youth agenda:

  • To follow developments on youth agenda, engage with youth groups and maintain relationships and prepare political reporting on the matter
  • Orient and guide the embassy’s policies on best practices and potential actions.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills using English and Albanian.
  • University degree in either marketing, communication, development or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in education, university administration, recruitment, psychology or other related fields, with a proven track record of leading and executing successful promotional campaigns
  • Knowledge of the Albanian and UK education sector
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, presentation and IT skills
  • Self-starter with enthusiasm of energy, able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work with a range of stakeholders and to convey messages in a professional way
  • Organisational and time-management skills with ability to demonstrate initiative, autonomy and self-motivation
  • Results driven with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at pace
  • Ability to work effectively within a small team
  • Ability to work flexibly and work extended hours, sometimes at short notice
  • IT skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

It will be a plus:

  • Project management skills and experience
  • Ability to keep on top of many details, organised and able to prioritise effectively
  • Flexibility and willingness to work occasional weekends, evenings, and travel outside Tirana

This is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term basis for one-year with possibility of renewal. The gross salary per month is ALL 159,685.00.

This is a full-time position of 5 days (36 hours net per week). The Embassy supports the work-life balance of its employees and is open to flexible working.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The successful candidate must have the right to live and work in Albania.

Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period.

The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Albania are subject to terms and conditions service according to Albanian employment.
