Main Purpose of Job:

Trade and Investment is at the very heart of HMG policy. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) helps British businesses to export and support inward and outward investment.

The British Embassy Manila is at the forefront of promoting bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom and the Philippines. As part of our dynamic team, the trade intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of UK-Philippine relations, specifically focusing on the technology, healthcare and infrastructure sectors as well as Market Access and Trade Policy but will be able to support wider sector portfolio of DBT Manila . The trade intern position is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in a diplomatic setting while actively supporting initiatives such as London Tech Week, the King's Birthday Party, Indo Pacific Roadshow among others. 

We are looking for two Trade Interns each reporting directly to the Trade Manager for Technology and Strategic Communications and Market Access and Trade Policy respectively.  

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

1. Sector and Trade Policy & Market Access Support

  • Conduct research on the technology, healthcare and infrastructure landscape in the Philippines.
  • Assist in analyzing market trends, opportunities, and challenges in the sectors.
  • Support the organization of sector-specific events and initiatives.
  • Monitor business and economic news relevant to specific sectors and assist in identifying opportunities for UK companies across HMG priority sectors.. 

2. Country Director and Sector Lead Support

  • Collaborate with the Country Director in coordinating meetings and managing schedules.
  • Assist in arranging meetings, preparing briefings, reports and minutes of meetings. 
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

3. Events and Visits

  • Play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of events, with a special focus on London Tech Week and the King's Birthday Party.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure successful events.
  • Handle logistics, invitations, and on-site support during events and visits.

4. Communication and Networking

  • Engage with DBT stakeholders to build and maintain relationships.
  • Assist in the development of communication materials, including press releases and social media content.
  • Willing to work full-time at DBT for six consecutive months.
  • Background in business, research, marketing, economics, international political economy and international relations would be an advantage. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
